GD Goenka University B.Tech Review By Mahesh Nayak

GD Goenka University is a strong name in education and therefore I didn’t even think before applying at G. D. Goenka. As soon as I realized that they didn’t have any admission criteria, I knew there is something fishy. In short, admissions here are as simple as applying butter on bread. One may consider that good or bad but this has made the University quality worsen over the years. I passed out in 2017 and things have gone haywire since then and if it continues merit students will stay away and the people who just want an engineering degree will join this University. The quality of the education is so worse that I appeared for entrance for PG but couldn’t clear any even after preparing for entrance for 1 year. I have got my reality check and would therefore request the ones who want to study don’t enter this University. The University is located in Sohni Rural and the day scholars coming to the University come in luxurious cars wearing high-end brands. The GD Goenka University is a money ball where students come to show their power and the ones who want to study seriously can only bang their heads on the walls.

In terms of the facility like the classrooms, labs, and workshop centers that are installed are quite impressive. I saw students spending time there and the teachers are helping students out and all this looked so good from hindsight. Looks can be deceptive and that’s what happened with many of us. The lectures were not regular and mass bunking was quite regular. The management was actually happy with that as they got the footage that they required. Many negative videos of the protests inside the University campus and were uploaded on YouTube. However, the owners of this University are so powerful that all those videos are even removed.

Freshly passed out graduates from IIT or for that matter many top college students have got the teaching job at GD Goenka. Not all but quite a few of them as most of my teachers were M. Tech passed out and just had 2-3 years’ experience. Hence, most of the faculty lacked experience, and due to the syllabus different from what they studied, they found it difficult to cope up. This was a harsh reality of the University and if you want to risk your future you can.

Hardly any as the placement rate was not beyond 20-30%. E&C engineering department didn’t have more than that. Some brilliant students were taken extra care of. Engineering design and all were some of the skills that we were taught in the penultimate semester to improve their portfolio of the number of students getting placed through campus placements. Some companies from the auto, IT, and pharma sectors formed the group of companies that came for hiring students. 1 out of 5 got a job as most of the students didn’t even appear for the placement interview. GD Goenka University Placements scene is pathetic.

There are a couple of buildings that are dedicated to boy’s hostel and likewise for girls as well. The hostel was nice as the rooms were great and so were all the facilities at the hostel. There is a common room that can also be referred to as a party room. As per University norms, it’s a common study room but at GD Goenka students don’t come for studies and therefore the students are making proper utilization of the study room by converting it into a party hall. GD Goenka University hostel comes with a food facility and the food provided was nice as the food quality was good and also had variety in the menu as well.

You name it and GD Goenka has that facility. The large campus has separate buildings for each department and the engineering block was one of the busiest and the grandest blocks on the campus. The labs were world-class and so were the workshop houses that were built on the campus. There isn’t a single flaw in the infrastructure. The money ball has been played wisely as infrastructure can give complex to any top university of the country. The libraries were multiple, sports grounds multiple, and also the canteens were multiple. They probably don’t believe in single digit and therefore have almost all the facilities multiple. Infrastructure wise I have no complaints with the University.

Passing 4 years at the University became like an Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film where you feel like getting out in the last hour. The syllabus changed semester after semesters but as a student, I could hardly learn as the question banks and following some notes were enough to become an engineer at GD Goenka. There’s always a part kind of mood at the campus as most of the students come and show which new car have they bought or which latest Apple gadget have they pre-ordered. These were the general talks at the campus as everybody was trying to be more superior to the other. For the people who enjoy such an atmosphere, GD Goenka University is great for them. They will be sitting with a class of people that can match their standard and somebody with whom they will never feel shy going out with.
