ILS Law College BA+LLB Review By Ranveer Kadvasara

ILS Law College is one of the oldest law colleges in Pune and therefore the alumni base is much stronger than Symbiosis Law School for that matter as it has produced more models than lawyers. The legacy of ILS is much higher than many Law colleges of the country and students from all states of India come and study Law here. The college is located in one of the busiest streets of Pune and has one of the best campuses that gloat greenery. There’s also a hill beside the college making the college even beautiful. The only problem that happened because of greenery was that on hot summer mornings the shades of the tree made us fall asleep. ILS follows a semester pattern and after every 2 semesters, there is a 2 months break. You have to be a little choosy in making friends but one thing for sure that seniors in the college will help you out selflessly.

The classes starts early in the day and ILS made me an early riser because there’ no option on bunking classes. Your future is secured with ILS because moot competitions, advocacy competitions, and others helped us in many ways. We also used to have a judgment writing competition every year and trust me it was one of the toughest competitions that I have ever been a part of Classes but sometimes started looking boring because 8-9 hours at the college was at the higher end. Even if the classes lasted 4-5 hours, we were given assignments for the next 4-5 hours. In Law schools what I have seen and known is that students are taught in the same channel. ILS is different as it provides excess exposure with respect to subjects like environmental law, international law, or human rights.

The faculty of ILS is one of the best. It’s as safe an answer it can be but from my perspective, my life changed once I started following their advice. Surviving 10 semesters at one place is not easy and one needs easy-going teachers to make life easy at the campus. The faculty hardly shouted at us even if we made mistakes. They were quite helpful and solved all our queries when asked upon. ILS is on the list of the top 10 Law Colleges of the country and our teachers deserve recognition for that.

ILS Law College Placement cell handles all the students’ placement queries. The cell doesn’t just help the students but the companies as well in picking the right candidates for their organization. The cell is not biased towards any group but to maintain legacy they don’t just place students in any organization. The year 2016 was the year when I had Goosebumps on as I attended over 100 moot court sessions, be a part of the judicial system as an intern, and assisted one of the top law firms in the evenings. All this was added to my portfolio and shown all my skills at the virtual competitions held during inter-college competitions. Luckily I got noticed and got placed with Airtel. The law students are never appointed as a direct lawyer and I was made part of the corporate lawyer system that handles Airtel’s judicial matters.

There are boys and 2 girls hostel on the campus. ILS Law College hostel wings were such that I arranged my stay myself independently. Even though ragging has been banned but juniors had to say, how are you, Sir? Whenever they see a senior and fill water for them in the bottles were still in practice. No physical but still mental health issues are common in Law Students and if a junior dares to complain, he/she will be boycotted and that’s why no one does that. Even in the past of many students getting suspended because of ragging are common stories at the campus. The seats are also just 150 and they always are filled on the sources and therefore as a common student not just me but many of my classmates stayed at SB Road that is just a kilometer away from the college and has buildings that provide accommodation to students. I would recommend students joining this college to find accommodation outside the hostel.

The campus is not that huge but has greenery in abundance. I felt fresh the whole day as early morning Oxygen intake was optimum at the campus. The huge ILS library is where students can dive and find some of the best books not just related to the course but of any of their interests. The administrative building was called Saraswati Building and that is where the classes and the competitions were held. There was girls' common room and both boys' and girls' washroom on each floor. The other building was named the Laxmi building which was the teacher’s complex as the teacher’s staffroom and Principal room was in the Laxmi building. ILS Law College has one of the biggest sports grounds. The college also has a swimming pool which was used only by hostel students though.

5 years is a long time and after 3 years things started getting loosen up. The last 2 years which mostly had competitions and virtual court sessions made studies interesting and made sure that students don’t lose interest. ILS is definitely one of the best colleges and all the students from my batch are doing well in their life. The annual fest Avhaan was attended by students of various colleges and the roar could be heard far across. The multi-cultured ILS campus was full of life.
