Presidency College B.Com Review By Sai Nithin

It’s been a while by the time I have passed out. It was like a school as the class timings were strict and to keep us attentive there were many precession tests taken. This is not the end friends as post-class tests were also taken to check who all paid attention and who didn’t. Back then it looked so odd and as if I am in prison but now I know how important all that was as the B. Com from Presidency College Hebbal helped me prepare for future competitive exams and also helped me in my further education. The college has now turned into a University but I don’t think there would have been any change apart from one thing that the college has increased the number of students. Unfortunately for them the management and faculty are still the same so strictness should be in place. However, if you are in the college for studies then academic wise the college is much underrated. The students know about the strictness and try to avoid Presidency as much as they can. Even the best of students don’t want to be a part of this college due to strictness. I will answer the remaining sections and I hope you can conclude out of that about the college.

One has to be in discipline and that will ensure that you don’t flunk in one of the easiest courses. B.Com has the least pass-out ratio in Bangalore University as the students are not serious who opt this course. However, if you have chosen Presidency means you have to have guts. The passing percentage for B.Com at Presidency is 90 while the University passing percentage is a shade over 50. The difference tells the whole story.

They are absolutely best if you just compare them based on their degrees and knowledge. If I talk about the other side, you will start hating them because they won’t even help you even if you want to represent your college at the university level at a debate or any such competitions. We had to maintain attendance of 75% and then in the next 25%, we can represent the college at the University competitions. They don’t want us to breathe because according to them in our families marriages doesn’t happen and our area can never have water logs during the rainy season and of course we can’t fell ill at all. I tell you the faculty was more than strict.

After all the resilience and hard work, the college manages to bring some companies that can take some time out and interview the college’s UG students as well. This was more like a favour that the college does to its students. The top companies come and give us accounting jobs because that is all we can do as per them. Even the BA student got to appear for the interview for some creative jobs but B.Com students can’t be creative as we can only be used for laborious work. The placements were not favourable and it wasn’t just me but hardly any students accepted the jobs they were offered through campus placements.

The college has residential facilities for both boys and girls near the college. The college has arranged buses to bring the hostel students. The hostel was stricter than the college and I don’t understand how the students maintained themselves at the hostel. The curfew time for girls was 7 pm and for boys, it was 8 pm. The mess used to get close by 9 pm and if you are studying late hours, you can’t order food as outside food was denied at the hostel. God, I pity those who stayed at the hostel and know some who spent 3 years at the hostel.

The area was the only issue otherwise the college has been well maintained. A nice beautiful campus that is spread in 64 acres is laced with all the basic facilities. The administrative center of the college was the first building at the camps and the same building had a 2-floor library. From the security point of view, the entire campus was under surveillance cameras. The classrooms I tell you were the best. It wasn’t just chairs and desks but was an ICT-enabled classroom. There were smart boards for studies and communicating through technology was the pedagogy adopted in the classrooms. The cafeteria was not just a food joint but also where students used to work on their projects. The walls had graffiti’s and there were enough seating space for 100 people at a time. The sporting facilities were fantastic as both indoor and outdoor sports ground were international styled. Sports was the only thing that could be used as an excuse for the classes but for that, you have to be the bloody best as the selections for the teams were made purely based on talent.

As soon as the closing bell rang I used to rush to the parking lot so that I could avoid traffic and reach home on time. The college already consumed all that we had in the classes and therefore avoided being part of any of the society and never participates in annual fests or any college events. I hardly enjoyed college life at the Presidency College but academic wise I became more responsible and disciplined.
