VIIT Pune doesn’t have an infrastructure that will get on your head immediately but the institute is without a doubt one of the best for PG in Computer Engineering. The programming was object oriented and being not so versed with programming language, I did found it tough at the beginning but the faculty helped me out with whatever I missed or couldn’t be a master of from the graduate college (Poornima College of Engineering). The good thing about the syllabus was that the learning was mostly project-based. Student interaction during the class helped one carry out the practicals easily. All the students who were a part of this college were not destined to come here as all had other preferences and VIIT’s sister college Vishwakarma Institute of Technology but because we couldn’t make it, some of us offered a berth here. The crowd part was amazing as some of the most creative heads were at the colleges. Each one in the crowd was not just into studies but was equally skillful in extra-curricular activities as well. Projects were mostly done in collaboration and that made the relationship between the students intact even after the college is over.

Apart from the syllabus, the college is incubated many other subjects like logical reasoning and smart sensors. This has what developed the creative skills which I guess was already there in each one of us. Not just the technical but the college workshops also included many on technical activities as well. From the 3rd semester as soon as our internship got over, we were only given industrial projects. The way everything was done at the college raised my spirits for sure. One thing that one has to keep in mind is that they should clear the semesters upfront. If you have done so the placements are guaranteed but if that doesn’t happen then forget the payments.

Without the kind of faculty that the college has it was next to impossible to have such a fine system in place. The HOD or the principal also used to interact with the students 2-3 times each semester. The faculty also encouraged us for overall growth rather than just academic growth. VIIT faculty are strict with the academics and from my perspective it was exceptional. If one wants to earn knowledge then they can approach the faculty as they were easily approachable. Faculty and students used to enjoy tea or coffee in the canteen together.

The CS department is the best when it comes to placement but there shouldn’t be any back in the first year. VIIT Placements started from the 3rd semester as we had internships done and were also on industrial projects. We could present all of those in our interviews and we were literally trained on how to impress the recruiting members of the companies. Some lucky ones even with lesser marks got better placements than the ones with higher marks. Luck does play a role during the placements but the ones who were without any backs got the placements. The Average was 7-7.5 lakhs and the highest placement was 26 lakhs during our batch.

The institute has a 300 student capacity boy’s hostel at 2 kilometers away from the college. The boy’s hostel is named Gadia Hostel and there were 2 kinds of room options. One was a normal room and the other one was a premium room. Veg and Non-Vegetarian food options were there and the dining area of both was different. The girl’s hostel was called Bibwe Hostel and that is located at Bibewadi which is also 2 kilometers from the institute. The food was pretty average but you don’t have a choice as the mess was compulsory. Gangadham food eatery was the best option when the mess food was not of my choice.

The infrastructure was ok types. All departments building were different and M. Tech which is offered by just 2 streams had one floor for them. The classrooms are high-tech and VIIT has made sure that we do our projects at some of the best labs and workshops. Now comes the difficult part and that is the location. You will need a 2-wheeler to commute as in the range of 3-4 kilometers there’s nothing. The nearest mall Kumar Pacific is at a distance of 4 kilometers. The canteen serves poor quality food and being vegetarian the first best choice was Jyoti Restaurant and that was also 4-5 kilometers. The college has tie-up with Universal medical agency and the doctors were called immediately from there if needed. The workshops of the colleges were great as we had them in different corners of the college. The college has 2 sports grounds out of which one was mostly reserved for fests or the other events while the other one was for cricket enthusiasts.

The institute will mostly encourage you to study. If you are a fest camping or sports person then the college won’t be suitable for you. The facilities are there but they can’t be done at the cost of studies. CS and E&TC are 2 departments for which I can guarantee this but if you see the other activities at the college, you will know that college doesn’t instigate or promote extracurricular activities. Campus Life at VIIT was cool because of the kind of students that took admission there. I was an outsider at the campus but the way students mingle with each other it became a support system. The college was superb overall.
