Government Engineering College B.Tech Review By Amlin Ambrose

The college contains two main blocks which are named as block A (old block) and block B (new block), respectively. The hostel facility for boys is men's hostel which has a capacity of 300+ students and for women; there are two ladies hostels in which one ladies hostel is only for caste reservations students. For teachers there are cottages but currently no one is staying there because its maintenance is not done properly. As parts of the two main blocks, the college has 4 lab buildings which are electrical lab, electronics lab, mechanical lab, and there is also an amenity block. Currently, the college does not have a specific block for civil engineering students; it is integrated in the amenity block itself. Two new building are under construction in the college which will be completed within two years. This college is located on the top of a hill and it's nearly 750 m above the sea level. The college has beautiful scenery.

The college has courses such as mechanical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, computer science engineering, and newly added civil engineering. In future, the college is planning to introduce a bachelor’s degree in electrical instrumentation engineering. Construction of two buildings for civil engineering students and electrical and instrumentation engineering students is under progress. Eligibility to join this college based on KEAM examination conducted by the Kerala government, it's for students who have completed +2. Another way is through LET examination, it's for joining B.Tech from second year onwards, and it’s only applicable for students who have already completed polytechnic or diploma. Another way is through the GATE examination which is conducted by IITs together; it is for students who want to join M.Tech courses.

Almost the entire faculty of this college has a Ph.D degree and each of them have done their B.Tech and M.Tech from different NITs and IITs. They have deep knowledge about their respective fields. The classes are mainly held from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Normally there are 5 working days in a week but in case any pending work has to be done, then there will be special classes on Saturdays and Sundays.

Right now, the placements from every branch are generally less with respect to other colleges.

There are only a few students in the college hostel because its capacity is very less and the existing seats are given on the basis of caste reservation. The students coming under the general category will not get seats in the college hostel.

The college is placed on the top of a hill. The college is situated near a place called Thalapuza, Manathavady, Wayanad. The college has an area of 25 acres. The lab facility here is above average as compared to other government engineering colleges in Kerala. But the number of students the classrooms can hold is less. The classrooms are small.

There are nearly 1200 students in this college in 5 branches including electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and communication engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computers science engineering, and two types of M.Tech courses. In addition to that, there are nearly 70 faculty members.
