REVA University started in 2014 and I joined it in 2016. The university was still at its initial stage but the framework that they did was exceptional. Like the examination procedure and latest syllabus were all done properly. There were few things though those were trailing. Like the batch size and student management batch-wise were not in order. The strength of the University is such that if the University can place even 30-40% of those, it would be good. For PG students though the final placement percentage was around 70%. The faculty hired was also some new faces and with hardly any teaching experience. The University also has kept backup teachers but still fresher faculty for teaching PG students’ needs a whole lot of refurbishing. The infrastructure though needs a standing ovation because it’s splendid. Like many other Universities, REVA University fees are also quite high. One can thus question the kind of studies and placement it provides. I have no complaints as by the end of the course, I was placed and have recommended the University to my younger brother and some friends as well.

The syllabus structure and the semesters time duration as in the breaks between the semesters and study time for the exams provide was quite good. The passing percentage was less as the markings are tough. It’s not like that you will pass easily because studies are tough. For an IT engineer, the practicals also have a good weightage, and attending them was mandatory. Anything missed was taught again but only if one has a valid reason. The University labs are well equipped with the latest computers and with all the latest software. We were allowed to spend as much time we wanted in the labs.

Little poor because most of them were young. The experience of teaching PG students was quite slim. The faculty backup was good as the attrition rate among the faculty was high. This was not a good sign because one faculty per subject is how it should be. Also, the batch size was big and faculty cared less about who has attended the classes and who hasn’t. Only the practicals were kept in check. It was because the faculty had to teach the same things again and again if the students bunk that. The faculty part needs some refurbishing as experience matters.

The University’s placement cell was pathetic. They charged fees for training the students. This is not all as what they taught was quite basic and I would never recommend anyone to take placement training from the college. The internship was provided after the second semester and that was the only industrial exposure that we got. The mass placements for all the engineering students happen between August and September every year. All the big names from the IT industry and non-core industries were the ones that turned up for the mega event. The average package for our batch was 7-8 LPA.

REVA University hostels were exceptional or should I say mind-blowing. There are some 10 hostel buildings out of which 4 are boy’s hostel and 1 hostel was entirely for PG students. The hostel rooms were big and had all the facilities. Like enough charging points, beds, and clean bathrooms. The hostel terraces have solar panels installed. All the electricity supply of the hostel is dependent on that. The hostel building has a large study room and a common area to sit and relax. The common room also has a TV and some gaming facilities. The hostel mess was also quite good and along with morning breakfast, they also served us evening snacks along with lunch and dinner.

The infrastructure of the University is world-class. REVA University Campus is beautiful spread in almost 50 acres with greenery all around and gardeners working all round the clock. The University is a complex in itself. There are many buildings, ATMs, parking areas, sports ground, garden, provision store, and medical stores among others. The sport's ground was multi-dimensional as it was used for both football and cricket matches that are organized by the University every year. For the crowd, there is also a seating area beside the sports ground. The open amphitheater was out of the world and also the college auditorium as it was 3 layered seating. The University has 5 canteens and mind you are still not enough.

Societies for respective streams and interests have been formed and even the ex-students are associated with them. The college fest was a treat to watch because the management took note of all the performances and proper dance and modeling coaches and mentors were hired to help prepare the students for the grand event. The chief guests have been some of the biggest political names. Many celebrities have also performed at the University. There are some flakes and some positives but on the whole, the University is by and large good. There are more greens about the college than the grays.
