JD Birla Institute for Girls is one of the best colleges for girls/women to attend in Kolkata. From the environment to the students, everything is about it is very special and inspiring. It is affiliated to Jadavpur University, Kolkata. It is accredited with the highest 'A' grade with the NAAC. The admission process starts usually between April-June after the board examinations are over. You can find the form online on the college's official website or even get a hard copy of the form from the campus.

I joined the Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) course in the college. You need to get to a minimum of 80% to apply for the college. However, if the pool of 90% candidates is more there are tough chances for you to get into the college. In case you have scored 90% but have scored very low in some subject (be it 5th or 6th subject) they will provide you bridge courses for that particular subjects too so that you can catch up and are not left behind this race (I really liked this initiative of the college). And it helped me a lot in my academic growth. I joined this course in JDBI because all my elder sisters had graduated or were pursuing their degrees in this college, and let me honest their growth was incredible. The course subjects focus on your academic development and make you ready to face every kind of intellectual situation that you might face in your life ahead of under-graduation. All subjects are practical oriented. The subjects they have included will really help you further with your post-graduation too.

There are approximately 10-15 teachers for B.com (Hons) in the college. I do not have an idea of the overall number of faculties since the timings are different for different courses and the teachers/ professors come according to those timings, but on average, I guess there are 25-30 teachers/ professors. The teachers/ professors have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in teaching, and they are very adaptive to the changing times. They are very progressive. The best part about the faculty is that the assignments they design are so practical-oriented and really help us keep up with the world. Their teaching ways is very dynamic and insightful and really help us to understand the commerce and business world with depth. Not only that, but the teachers also interact with you on a personal level, and ensure your personal well-being too. They are very approachable and friendly.

The training and placement cell of the college is good. Companies like Wipro, HSBC, and many other top national and multinational companies have approached JDBI from time to time for placements and internships. One of the main reasons they approach JDBI is because of its consistent and well-performing results not only in academics but also in other fields too. The average annual package that the students of JDBI get is between 3-6LPA. However, it depends on the students who want to opt to get placements or internships in-campus. Thus the average placement keeps on changing every year.

No hostel facilities. However, there are lots of girls PG nearby.

It is not a very big college. The college campus is small, cozy, and beautiful. The walls are red, with lots of greenery. There are washrooms and water-coolers on every floor. There is a utility store from where you can get almost everything from stationary to snacks. The college canteen is also very spacious and serves new types of delicacies from week to week (although the quality of the canteen food is not that good). There is a library, and the book lending and borrowing system is digital and very organized. You can through the website what books are available and what books are not. This makes the task of visiting the library easy and with a goal of what you want. The recreational area is one of the best places to hang out with your friends. It an open area on the topmost floor of the college, with a beautiful views of the city. The auditoriums are big and spacious. The classrooms are air-conditioned and have smart boards too. There are 2 computer labs which are updated to the date and are spacious too. We have a doctor-on-call from 8 am on campus, and she is a really sweet and friendly person. Overall the campus is a really wonderful place and the classrooms are big. The location of the college is also very nice. It is located very close to the main road so getting transportation is very easy. There are good food stalls and cafes nearby. Park street is around 1km away, so after college, you can hang out with your friends.

Life is JDBI is not as bad as thought it would be in a girl's college, since I have spent 14 years of my life co-ed. So this was a big change for me. Everyone is so friendly and co-operative; the principal ma'am is very supportive and helpful. She treats all of us like her own children, and she always motivates to do things instead of giving up. There are lots of fests organized by our college which are really fun to attend to, and at the same time our college gives us lots of opportunities to participate in all types of competitions outside the campus. We have lots of social campaigns related to environment, poverty and girl education which is the most unique and amazing part of the college. I can just say one thing; JDBI builds girls into bold and independent women who know what path they to need to be and how to achieve their goals.
