CHARUSAT University MBA Review By Dharmesh Patel

CHARUSAT is one of the top universities in Gujarat. The university is much better than many of its counterparts. Charotar University is accomplished I nurturing not just academic but personal and social values in students. All this looks fine until the placements are done and here the university hasn’t delivered as per its reputation. First of all the colleges that has engineering as their shield shouldn’t have an MBA program. I agree that it isn’t just meant for commerce students as most of the engineering students are the ones who opt for MBA. Moving on B.Tech student placement ratio was better than MBA. It was sad to see but can only see the engineering students jumping in joy while MBA students were handed peanuts in the form of placements.

One of the best that I have seen. The classes always on schedule. Professors will be seen waiting outside to take the lectures. The digital board was raring to go because the professors will hunt in few slides as soon as they enter. No room for any gossip or cracking a joke while the classes are on. Maybe it looks a little too much but as a student, I was more than comfortable with all these things in place. Apart from academics, a huge range of social and cultural activities were also a part of the curriculum. The university community was always involved to make sure students get some time off from their studies. All well managed and the MBA program was designed well to make sure students have enough knowledge on how to provide business solutions to the companies we work for in the future.

Some of the best in the business were brought in to make sure the best students are produced. The professors looked greedy in taking the class because they would always ask for those extra 5-10 minutes from the professor whose class was due next. All this looked great from hindsight but the syllabus was so vast that everybody from the faculty community needed that. Even weekends were not spared by our professors because they never missed an opportunity to teach us some extra. The faculty department overall did a wonderful job in teaching and training the students.

Honestly, I don’t want to speak about it. Had a horrible experience as 30-40% of students couldn’t even get a campus placement and I was among them. GPAs were maintained. All the training programs were followed wholeheartedly and still, the university couldn’t manage a 100% placement for the MBA program. Some students were initially selected but were then ignored. Many A-listed companies came to the campus to give us the placements but very poor returns as they wanted just a few. Engineering placements at the university though had an opposite scene. Placements were done and dusted but had to leave the university just with a degree in hand because it took some doing to get the placement even after doing MBA from one of the best universities in Gujarat.

The university campus has 4 girls hostel and the fees is quite reasonable. There are 8 hostels for boys located outside the campus. The boy's hostel doesn’t belong to the university but they are outsourced by the university. Royal Care Hostel with a capacity of 25 students is where I managed to get the accommodation. 7500 per month along with the food was reasonable and the hostel was also nice. There are many hostels to choose from but Royal Care and Price Hostel were among the best hostels provided by the university. Our hostel had a dining hall, a sports room, a TV room, and a reading room. The hostel was fully Wi-Fi and probably one of the best hostels in Anand. The university has arranged transportation facilities for the boy's hostel students.

The campus is enormous with an area of 120 acres. 8 departments or the different colleges that come under the university were on the same campus. Some of the facilities were common while some for respective departments. The management students department was at the far end of the campus. We had to travel all the way from the university gate to our block which was a 7-8 minute walk. The university is damn beautiful and I don’t think I have seen any better than this. Lovely scenes with trees all around little bushes and benches at the campus. The common hall was the evening meeting point for us before heading back to the hostels. The college canteen was hardly used as 1-hour lunch for enough for me to go to the hostel and have the food. For a cup of coffee or tea, it wasn’t that bad either. The sporting facilities were also great and the campus had an ATM center, a medical shop.

Life at CHARUSAT was like being home. Firstly being the home state and most of the students from the same state, it didn’t felt any different. Yes, I did miss home for some part but studies, projects, and events hardly gave me any time to go home even during weekends which was just 60 miles from the university. The GARBA nights which I thought I will miss but hang on the university GARBA nights was more glamorous than any GARBA ground that you visit during the Navratri. However, it was just a 2 days affair but still was something that I will go again if given an opportunity.
