Government Engineering College B.Tech Review By Athul Bijukumar

The main reason I chose to enroll in this college is because it’s a government college as one of the 8 government colleges in Kerala. The fees you have to pay here to complete your course are negligible. The cheap cost is the major reason I chose this college. If you have enough rank in KEAM exam, you can study here. The courses offered are outdated (every Indian college’s are). The lab equipments are not very well maintained. The faculty members are good and teachers have a good grasp of respective subjects. The placement is also good. Students have high freedom. The campus is open 24×7. I would recommend someone to choose this college.

The college has B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Tech, and MCA courses. To enroll, you have to have a good rank in KEAM exam. The entry requirements are to have good rank in KEAM and plus two with biology or computer science. In B.Tech you can choose from CS, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, and electrical and communication engineering. After completing the course, you will have a good grasp of the subjects.

I am studying mechanical engineering and the subjects are taught by either professors or assistant professors. They have a good comprehensive knowledge of the subject and teach very well. Teachers are good and friendly enough and most are not much strict. There are many who have doctorate and Ph.D, so their lectures are very good. They have a good experience in this field.

Government Engineering College, Thrissur does have a Placement Cell and it had an outstanding performance in the year of my joining, but currently the as the market is dull they are also hit by it. But I have heard that that our placement this year is better than many of the other colleges.

The college consists both men’s and ladies’ hostels. I will tell about men’s hostel; the hostel life is very good. It’s comparatively better than many other colleges. The staff will clean toilets regularly and the food is also good enough and it's very cheap (82 Rs per day). The room for two people is spacious enough. It’s always open; you don't have to ask any permission to get out in the night or something.

There are many buildings in the college including mechanical engineering block, computer science engineering block, production engineering block, civil engineering block, EEE department block, EC department block, etc. The college also has a main building which consists of the principal’s office. There are many lab faculties in the college campus. It is a large campus and consists of 82 acres, which includes men’s and ladies’ hostels, quarters for staffs, campus store, and canteen.

The college contested many engaging activities in my joining year but currently, there are none. The vast campus has given students good freedom to engage in extracurricular activities. The principal also favors many fests. The only challenge lays in the funding and college union’s decision which can cause the delay. The college is expecting many fests such as Dyuthi, Halloween, Onam, Christmas, etc.
