GECT from the Perspective of an Architecture Student

Overall Rating
GECT is one of the top engineering colleges in Kerala and the second best college for Architectural courses. Its most striking feature is exposure it offers which is incomparable to other colleges even. The campus is huge, providing space for football, basketball, hockey, etc. The library is also a central attraction. GECT is a 24 hour campus which allows students to have nightlife experiences which is not usually seen in other colleges even the top colleges in Kerala.
 

Academics Rating
The course B.Arch is rare as it is only offered in four government colleges in Kerala. So it has its own academic quality with well-trained, skilled, and experienced teachers. The course is attainable by qualifying a national level entrance exam NATA. The admission is based on the rank attained in NATA exam and seats are allotted based on category. Admission is through KEAM website. Each semester has two internal assessment exams and a final semester exam.
Fee is around Rs. 9,000 per year but with scholarships, you are only required to pay the exam registration fee that is Rs. 1,985 in each semester.
 

Faculty Rating
GECT offers well-trained and experienced faculties. They are usually friendly because that is very necessary in our course field. They usually use PPT to teach students and for better understanding of the subject. The strength of each batch is 40 to 44 students. The approachability towards their teaching depends entirely upon the teacher and the student’s behavior throughout their class performance.
 

Placement Rating
Placements for the architecture department can be improved.
 

Hostel Rating
The college offers affordable hostel facilities to limited students. The allotment procedure is based on family income and distance of student's hometown from the college. Girls and boys have separate hostels with separate mess halls. The hostel rent is Rs. 350 per month and food bill totals around Rs. 2,800 per month. The food quality is very average not something to praise about.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The campus has different blocks or buildings for different branches. It has blocks for lab too. Auditorium and library is another additional building seen in the campus. Each department building has its own seminar halls with projector increasing the accessibility factor within the department. The college also has a public GEC canteen that is open to public with affordable food rates. It also has a physical education department offering GYM services exclusively for GECT students. Architecture department even has its own amphitheater and recreational spaces.
 

Campus Rating
GECT surely offers memorable campus life and experiences with its utmost exposure through events and fests. Clubs like ISTE, IEDC, and IEEE offer workshops and talk shows offering real life experience improving skill of the individuals and creating awareness of the future world and the upcoming challenges and opportunities. The clubs also conduct talk shows for students to let them know about the opportunities out there. Cultural and tech fest with magical Proshow Night are another attraction to college’s campus life experience.

    It is the second best college in Kerala under APJ KTU University. It is one of the oldest Engineering Colleges in Kerala. It is on top 200-300 NIRF ranking. The college has a very vast campus.     The main reason I chose to enroll in this college is because it’s a government college as one of the 8 government colleges in Kerala. The fees you have to pay here to complete your course are negligible. The cheap cost is the major reason I chose this college. If you have enough rank in KEAM exam, you can study here.     GEC college is the best college of the year. The college itself has 75 acres, which is a very big campus to enjoy. The college has various engineering courses like mechanical, production, computer, etc. Behavior of the teachers makes students more attracted to them for doubts and talks.     Government Engineering College Thrissur is one of the top-ranked state government institutes where you can get admission by scoring a decent rank in the KEAM examination. I wanted to study Mechanical Engineering so this is one of the best places where you can join.
