MCKV Institute of Engineering B.Tech Review By Yathartha Ghosh

This is the Institution that makes sense for a middle class individual wanting to pursue a Tech degree in West Bengal. I belong to a fairly lower middle class background and I live in around 10km away from our campus. I must say that the facilities provided to us like frequent webinars, seminars, workshops, etc. play an intricate role in skills buildup whether it be our soft skills like communication and spoken English or technical’s skills of engineering, this college will make you the complete package. Also the campus is above average and year round there are multiple events for us to participate in.

For B.Tech, students need 60℅ or above marks in HS boards in Science Stream and JEE or WBJEE rank. Another way to take admission is diploma. If you want B.Tech CSE then try to get at least 20,000 rank, for IT that would be around 40,000 and for electrical, ece, mechanical and automobile try to get below 90,000.

For the first year, that is 1st semester and 2nd semester, the faculty for all streams is the same. We are taught about basic science that includes physics, chemistry, mathematics, etc. The basic science faculty is really nice, the teachers are helpful and they solve each and query of the students any time. Then we have the English communication and soft skills development faculty, they serve as the pillars for corporate etiquette development for the students, each and every faculty there is exceptionally skilled, cooperative and helpful. Then from 2nd year to 4th, that is 3rd semester to 8th semester we have faculty respective to our stream. I am a student of CSE Artificial intelligence and machine learning stream and the faculty members of CSE department are extremely skilled and helpful but they are really strict so keep your guards up. From what I have heard about other stream is that the faculty of IT is moderate while faculty of Electrical and ECE are the same. Faculty of mechanical and automobile are the same too. Overall the faculty provided to us is well above average and in some cases exceptionally well but it is up to the students to make the most out of the teachers.

Placements are fairly good for a tier 3 college. Companies like TCS, Cognizant, IBM, Wipro, etc. come to our college and are frequent recruiters too. But the package varies as it depends on the candidate.

I don't use the hostel but from what I am heard is that for girls it's on campus so that makes it really convenient for them. For boys it's about a 10 minute walk from college and is fairly well.

This college has 3 blocks and the girl’s hostel at the back. The block A has the basic science classes at first floor which is same for all streams in first year. The first floor is for first year students. The 2nd and 3rd floor is for IT and CSE, AIML & DS respectively. Block B is for Electrical, ECE and mechanical department. Lastly block C is for MBA students. The classrooms are average but the labs are spectacular. The best part of the campus and my favorite place is the basketball court, love that place, I have so many good memories and basketball is a popular thing here. Worst part would be canteen.

Campus life is a hectic one, most of your time will pass by doing assignments, lab work, presentations and etc. But among that there are multiple events to keep you entertained. Every year fresher’s party and farewell is conducted. The most popular events are the tech fest and annual fest, aka Utopia. Tech fest has all kinds of things from robowar then robo fifa then so many more like gaming events, quizzes, coding competitions, etc. Overall campus life is good but the downside is immense pressure of academics.
