RKGIT has a good reputation but on almost all counts that I will answer in the review the college has failed to deliver. The college has a dress code of white shirt, grey trousers, and maroon tie, which students rarely follow. When I initially joined the college, there were no rules as we can come back at any time we want. All that changed from third as the new dean came in was quite strict, and we had to follow the timings. The hostel life was, in a way, good. The faculty and academics are not very good, though. After registration for B. Tech, it took months to get back our documents. It was worse than a government office, but no change as we were appointed mentors for the juniors, and they even complained the same. The college has tie-up with placement agencies rather than companies. They will interview our scores and CV and pass it to the companies that require their services. Lucky ones had the placements while most students missed the train.

I have done my B. Tech in CSE from RKGIT and got passed in 2018. The academics are pretty average. The classes were hardly on time, and the rules say 75% attendance is compulsory. I had less than 30 overall but still never got more than a warning. Hence, the college encourages you to follow the theory of 'My Life, My Rule.' You can do all that you want, like during the classes you can enjoy coffee at the canteen and even if the dean or the principal passes by they will not say anything. You can enjoy every facility of the college during classes, and by chance, if you have excelled in any of the activity the college will praise you more than the student getting the best CGPA.

The faculty of RKGIT knows nothing about the subjects and is too lazy to come to the class as well. There were some sincere professors but then the students who came as serious ones changed according to the college and even they couldn't control the students. We did all that we wanted in the classes. We never did projects but still scored well. The reason is the same as in most private colleges, and that is to bribe the professor and get numbers and attendance sorted.

Placements of IT and CS are good though they depend a lot on the English proficiency as well as the JAVA skills of the students. The other faculties such as Mechanical, Electrical, Civil etc. though are not lucky in terms of the placements as the college does not have tie-ups with the companies for these core branches. The placement agencies would take the interview as no nominee of the companies came directly. After 10 days or so, we knew whether we are placed or not. The college did nothing other than few words for consoling for those who didn't get the placements. I was shattered but then was like, I hardly attended college. I don't even know my subjects thoroughly, then I probably don't deserve the placements. But whose fault was it, at the end of the day? The college negligence has made us like that and trust me, the pain of not getting placed after spending 4 years in a college can never be described in words.

Hostel buildings are okay. There are six boy’s hostels in all. The first-year students building have 4 seater rooms, but we can shift as 2 buildings have AC rooms from the second year as well. The hostel was fun as boys were always on a roll, and playing pranks and playing in the recreation room till the late night was all we did all 4 years. Boys have to get into the hostel by 9 pm, which was hardly followed in the first 2 years. Post that tough, it became strict, and we had to manage our midnight munches by keeping chips packets and Maggie packets with us. You can party enjoy yourself with your friends only if your voice decibel is below a certain degree. We celebrate all the functions here as hostel functions are different from that of the college ones. One can enjoy a good hostel life if they manage to keep their friends intact for the course of 4 years.

The infrastructure of the college spans in 27 acres, but the vast space is not utilized well. The classrooms had ACs, and that was the only reason why we went to the classes. The college's auditorium was literally the talking point of the college as it was huge and so well constructed. The auditorium had an advanced sound and light system, but the seats were around 300, and most students had to stand and watch all the inter-college fests, annual fests, and seminars because the auditorium was the space where all these events took place. There's an indoor stadium at the college and from cricket to track and field events, one can practice everything over there. There's also a PNB ATM at the campus, but most of the time is out of cash.

If you are looking for a college where you can enjoy then RKGIT is one of the best. You will have no one looking after you. You can go nuts, and still the management will overlook it. So in that sense, the campus life was cool.
