Uttaranchal University B.Tech Review By Jr. Kailash Prajapat

Growing up in the beautiful city of Dehradun and watching so many universities, I always dreamt of being a part of anyone of them. Uttaranchal University being new and more attractive and also because I suited their admission criteria decided to have a go at Uttaranchal University. The college has appointed various brokers who will give you admission saying no extra charge but the reality is college pay some part of such high fees that we pay to so called Bhaiya who act as brokers on behalf of the University. Daily news articles and huge hoardings in the city were enough for my parents to get convinced that I will become an engineer from this university and I finally came here. Admissions are quite simple as I went directly with my parents and met a person who said, he will help us get admissions. He was indeed the broker about whom I came to know later. The crux of the matter here is that anyone who wants admissions here will easily get admissions irrespective of their numbers in 12th or entrance exams.

Worst ever as the attendance is compulsory only because if we miss that they can call our parents and ask them to pay fine or else we will lose the year. Classes early in the morning even during winters was like carrying an excess baggage in hope that it will be of some use. Useless would be less to say the least because the university doesn’t care or know how education should be. Extra classes for the loved ones but those who doesn’t do favor to the university will be denied such chances. Facility wise, it’s one of the best but the best resources need best people to utilize them.

Frustrated by all means and all that is shown upon the students as we are the one responsible for all the problems in their life. Most of the faculty here are through approach as they are relatives of the trustee. Some experienced while some recent passed out with no prior experience. The university doesn’t care though as they are first class passed out from similar private university where teaching is done 20% and politics is played 80%. Faculty is adept in that but not teaching which I guess has to be the other way round. Very poor in this section and it’s time University should start looking because everyone now knows that the university has the worst ever faculty.

Political connections have at least helped get some decent companies on board. For CS all top companies, be it Infosys or TCS have shown up in all the placement sessions. A proper training is provided by these companies to the students in a 2 month training program after the 3rd year. It was one of the most fruitful things or the best that university has been managed to do for students. Placement rate was nice and so were the packages offered. From placement point of view the university has done reasonably well. All the colleges of the university though don’t have this luxury but Uttaranchal Institute of Technology definitely has done well.

There are 4 boys hostel buildings with different room categories. Hostels are loaded with all the facilities and have a huge dining hall which is open for dinner from 7pm to 10 pm. The timings of the hostel are 10pm for boys and if I am not wrong, its 9 pm for the girls. The campus is fully Wi-Fi and hostel students have access to most of the facilities of the university even after the normal working hours of the university. Most students were outsiders and hostels are therefore always occupied and there were few from my batch mates who stayed at the hostel and had only the good stuff to gossip about the hostels of the university.

The location of the university makes it one of the most picturesque places in the doon valley. Spread in an area of 70 acres the university has some of the best architect in its buildings and laced with some of the best facilities. The location is little remote and therefore the university has made provisions for a huge food court that is common for students and teachers. That’s not all as there’s a Nescafe cafeteria at the university and a proper multi-cuisine restaurant. Medical facilities at the campus are also great as students don’t have to go out from small treatments. Sporting facilities are top notch and one work for the kind of greenery that is there at the campus. The campus is pollution free and clean as a whistle. Infrastructure of the university is pristine and the location of the university makes it even more beautiful to look from hindsight.

Life was fun as the university has various societies. Some of them are common for all the colleges of the university while each college of the university has their own societies as well. The university appreciated the students participating in societies activities and also in the university fests. If education is not something through which you want to make your future, then Uttaranchal University will give you one of the best college life you could ever imagine.
