Doon Business School PGDM Review By Jr. Kailash Prajapat

Having pursued PGDM from DBS, I can say that it is the best college for PGDM or MBA in Dehradun. The college is popular for the kind of placement that it provides. The faculty are qualified and dedicated who will pretty well support and guide for the future. The campus is awesome, and the activities done at the college are just too good. Along with PGDM, the college also gives us the opportunity to get some certificates by doing courses side by side such as SAP, NSE, and certificate courses on international logistics, and e-commerce among many others. The college provides enough opportunities to grow and develop in studies and in whatever field we want. DBS is one of the top colleges for MBA in North India. The placement record of the college in recent years has made sure that students get the finest placements and work in some of the top organizations. DBS students are at notable positions in various MNCs. Though the college is not that old, Alumni base of the college is already quite strong.

PGDM of DBS is divided into 4 semesters. The course and structure is a bit different as the course has been divided well between theory and practicals. There's not like both at the same time as first the theory classes are done and once, we are done with that, we proceed with the practicals. This I felt as better so that we don't have too many questions inside our head as theory means we will be with theory sessions until they are done, and once the practical or should I say the fun begins, it too stays long. During the course, many guests from India and abroad are invited to give us insight into the role of managers and why companies shell big money to hire managers.

The faculty was amazing and probably one of the most heart-warming stories of the campus. Some of them have spent years and years in teaching and are still continuing with it. Some Ph.D. holders are in the process of mentoring many juniors under them as teaching is not just their profession but is something that they can't live without. Hats off to the management for bringing in such faculty who eat, drink, and sleep teaching. As soon as a problem find their way to us, they came as a shield because they made sure that students from DBS should not just leave the college with half a knowledge. The faculties were truly amazing.

For a college that has such a great education system, high class faculties, and placements were just a matter of time. We all had the jobs before hand as the results of the final exam were still awaited but not the jobs. ICICI Securities, Kotak Securities, HSBC, and AXIS Capital hired the students beforehand who had NISM certification to flaunt. Fortunately, I had that and am working with one of the mentioned organizations. Likewise, some companies loved having students with those skills and knowledge for all the certification courses that the college provided. Only the PGDM degree laurels won't fetch a job, and this is why it's advisable to take up a certification course alongside MBA or PGDM.

I think college has spent more than what it should have for the hostels. Hostels are world-class, but they don't have enough numbers because even though DBS is the best, it's the third or fourth choice of students from other cities or states. Like boys, there's also a girl's hostel and again the rooms available are more than the actual demand. Born and raised in Dehradun and also doing all my education here, I have missed hostel life for sure as I have never been to any hostel.

The campus is huge, and the location is a little questionable as it is located near the industrial area. The building's architect is amazing, and the numbers of buildings are enormous. Every department has their own buildings and is almost identical. Since I already talked about the activities, the DBS activity hall or the auditorium was huge, and to top that, the auditorium roof had solar panels installed. The experiment started during our time as the college is planning to install them on all buildings. The college cafeteria was as decorative as it can be, and students were allowed to celebrate birthdays or occasions at the café. Sporting facilities are worth mentioning as the college had indoor badminton hard courts for boys and girls. There are a couple of pool tables and an enormous pool area. Grounds are also great, and football has been the forte of the college among the Doon colleges.

Many of you must have seen in some movies and series that Doon colleges and schools are known for their sporting activities. To put all under rest, it's all true. No matter which course you are in, you have to be a part of one or the other sporting event of the college. Students are coached by some of the best college-level coaches, and more than sports, I learned sportsmanship at DBS.
