Manipal Institute of Management MBA Review By Prem Kumar

I never thought I will be going to Manipal Institute of Management but thanks to my childhood friend from Rajasthan who took me to MIM. I will start off by saying that I couldn’t have thought or asked for a better college. Yes, I am not saying it’s the best B-school in India but for average students who fails to get admissions elsewhere and think that placements are not means for them then please keep MIM as an option. Three branches of MBA and because I was late had to choose what was left and it was MBA healthcare Management. MBA Global Business of the university is better than the best but talking about the stream I did, we had to spend a hell lot of time in Bangalore. We also had the options of going for a student exchange program to the states. It was all on our expenses though so it was better to avoid but for those who can afford, even IIMs don’t have such facilities. Studies were fun here as assignments were quite a few times discussed in class and if you have made a meal of that than it was an absolute fun. Not for you but for the ones who will be witnessing your condition post that.

The college literally trains students here to become future managers. It was great overall as syllabus was wide. It was mostly relevant to the field we were studying because some universities will teach each and every subject of MBA while MIM goes straight to the point. No waste subjects just the subjects related to our course were taught and case studies and practicals were all based on that. Hardly any leave in between as the semesters were run back-to-back and we didn’t have to time to have a breathing space for 2 years of our lives.

English dictionary has around 1200 adjectives and because the review has a word limit, I can’t use them all. Trust me they deserve all of them. I am judging on the basis that our professors were always available and would teach the same thing over and again until we say we have got the point sir. Coming from the core faculty, it was the celebrated guest faculty that created chaos all year round. Every next day, we will be informed that we will have to attend this or that guest lecture. I initially thought that decorated people will come and glorify themselves but it wasn’t the case. MIM has invited the likes of Ram Charan, Gautam Adani, and Sanjeev Bhasin as guest faculty during our batch.

If you have had good internship the chances, are you will be picked automatically from there. I was one of those lucky ones and therefore didn’t have to go through the lengthy process of attending virtual interviews and preparing and planning for the same. Shalby and Apollo hospitals were the top recruiters of Healthcare Management students. Students who wished to go beyond the core sector were allowed to interview whichever company they wanted. The placements on the whole were great as ideal packages were offered to 3/4th of the batch.

If it wasn’t MIM, I don’t think I would have ever had the opportunity to live the hostel life. There were plenty of hostels and after staying in double seater rooms during the first year, I along with my friend opted individual room as we both were mess and that was the only way we could have redeemed ourselves. I certainly did as hostel life teaches us a lot and for boys who are unorganized, please try to live in hostel for few years. Though I hail from North, I have spent a lot of time in South India and therefore I am accustomed to the south Indian food. Most of the students skipped the food as they were happy having food outside or at cafés.

Again, all the adjective of huge and enormous are applicable for the size of the campus. There are many colleges in Manipal University and all are under one roof. I am confused as where to begin from because each thing of the campus needs some description. I will do favor to the beautiful auditorium where we attended at least 40 lectures. It was a theater in its own sense. Wow factor was visible as soon as you step to the auditorium. Next and last, I would mention about the sporting facilities as I am into sports and again, they were just Wow. I thought I will boast that my last college had a futsal ground but here there were snooker and pool tables. Huge swimming pools and state of the art ground with a nice stadium get up. If you have an option to visit a university campus, please make sure it’s Manipal’s University Campus.

I hardly got over it and this review has reminded me old good days again. Friends and more friends was the way here. Students of all states and communities could be found here. Talking time out and walking in the L garden of the campus was one of the best moments that I could recall of a fabulous campus life that I had at Manipal University.
