Manipal University is known all across the country and all thanks to the large marketing budget that they have. After graduating and failing to get admissions at my desired institutes, Manipal University’s institute of management was a life savior. It accepts various entrance scores and CAT 80 percentile is enough to be called for the next round. I have to clear GD & PI round and after that only I secured admissions here. So, at least the institute is not bogus where they will accept any students. This drill made sure that the students who study here are among the best and all were unique as students of various backgrounds joined MIM. These made things quite interesting actually because in management studies one has to study numerous subjects and having engineering or BCA back ground helps. I wasn’t one of those but luckily, I made friends with them and because of that study became easy.
The college offers three kinds of specializations and after doing a proper research I came to know that MIM’s Global Business course is one of the best. I had to work really hard as a lot of engineering stuff and computer knowledge was required. From making workable PPTs to showcasing the projects, it was all need of the hour. Thanks to MIM and more importantly the students of various backgrounds who worked closely with each other to grasp all what all of us have. The exposure was fantastic as we were taken to industrial tour to Paris and also some student exchange program is run by the university. The studies here are quite unique and on the whole, it was a wholesome experience.
Academics should be credited because of the kind of faculty the institute has. They were all sharp and focused. They expected the same from the students and they were quite successful in making us just like them. They would bombard us with projects after projects and we were allowed to skip few classes but if we haven’t matched up, we have to be ready for some extra drill. Fun quotient never went out as the faculty would engage us in many fun activities and they knew how to get the mojo going. I was blessed to be trained and study under such experienced and knowledgeable faculty who made us understand the importance of hard work and discipline in life.
Placements were not outrageously outstanding but would still fit in the category of brilliant. Mandatory one month training was compulsory along with industrial training. Merchant banking was the most enticing thing and one can gauge the importance of that by having look where the financial markets are today. HSBC, BNP Paribas, Goldman Sachs, and Barclays Capital were the international recruiters and I trained myself to get along with one of those. Not just them but Kotak Securities, Reliance Mutual Funds, and HDFC Asset Management Companies also showed up. Placement percentage was great and the placements that we all had were in range of one million and above. I should have said lakhs but working in an international company I have forgot the word lakhs as it’s just thousands and millions here. Global Business specialization students of MIM received the most special placements. The training at MIM has helped me a lot to establish my own business successfully.
Staying in the hostel was not compulsory but in Manipal one will not find a better accommodation facility than Manipal University’s hostels. A huge complex of boys and girls hostel was in the campus. Both of course at distance places from each other. When I say distant means it’s distant as the university is quite big and one can be sure about the security of the hostels. Timing will little lenient as dodging the guards and coming late was possible. The food was the only reason why we came hostel late. Food was something that I didn’t understood because coming from Delhi, having Idli, Dosa, and other south Indian stuffs regularly was not possible for me. The Roti, Sabzi, I guarantee would be hard to gulp because everything was cooked in coconut oil which is sparse in Delhi or other northern states of India.
The university is gigantic as it’s like a town of its own. The population of the campus was around 5000 which is quite large considering it’s just a university. The university has 16 institutes and students of all streams are free to enjoy all the facilities of the university. I will start with the computer lab as they were 5-6 for sure. Our building had one and it had PCs in abundance. All our project work and print out was done there as the computer or the IT lab had everything and not just the PCs. The library again didn’t just have the books but one of the best study area one will find. Sports which I am not very fond of but sports enthusiast will love it. Lastly but not the least the canteen and the cafeteria area. They were good and had many food options from Chinese to Italian so one will never find himself/herself in a bubble where they had to contain with the same set of food.
Jaw dropping for sure as I learned a lot and more than that came to know the fun that staying in hostel brings. The university hosts events every week and it was just not possible for me to witness them all. However, the college final event or the annual fest was something which is a competition between the colleges of the university. MBA students lagged in that but I wish if some of the project burden was taken from us, we would have surely done better there as well.

I never thought I will be going to Manipal Institute of Management but thanks to my childhood friend from Rajasthan who took me to MIM. I will start off by saying that I couldn’t have thought or asked for a better college. Yes, I am not saying it’s the best B-school in India but for average students who fails to get admissions elsewhere and think that placements are not means for them then please keep MIM as an option. Three branches of MBA and because I was late had to choose what was left ... Read Full Review
MIM college of Manipal University is one of the best colleges for MBA. After spending a fair bit of time in Bangalore, I headed 400 kilometers north of Bangalore to come to a place which is renowned all across the country for its education. Manipal University offers a lot of courses and even MBA had 3 specializations. The choice couldn’t be made by me as I was the late entrant to the college and they just had a few seats left in MBA Health Care. My choice otherwise would have been MBA (Global ... Read Full Review
