Kirori Mal College develop student academically as well as socially
by Gaurav Sood
Students of KMC are referred as Kirorian. Sounds funny but I liked it as KMC gave me everything that I expected out of my college life. KMC may not be better in academics than many of the North Campus colleges but in regards to extracurricular activities, KMC is much better. One society that has made some singers and composers is Music society of the college that is famous nationally. Many filmmakers approach this club as the society has developed many musicians. Not just Music but the college’s drama society and others are also quite cool. The cut off is always above 90% for B.Com and therefore one expects a big competition in getting admissions here. The college management is one of the best as they live and let live. They hardly interfere in anyone’s life and students are set free to do all that they want. KMC can be listed in the tier 2 colleges of DU and hence don’t come with huge expectations. KMC is a nice college to grow socially but overall, it can’t be compared with DU colleges like Hansraj College, St. Stephens College, Hindu College, and SRCC.
Academically the college doesn’t stand out but is not a mug either. Attendance is not that compulsory as one get away with them quite easily. It was accumulation of what overall learning you can get from the college. I learned a lot of things apart from academics at KMC. I have never stand on a stage during school life but KMC gave me that confidence. So as I said one can accumulate as many things from the college life at KMC. B.Com (Hons) of DU is similar so the course content of all the colleges remains the same.
Highly experienced and even nerds couldn’t make it good books of the faculty. Faculty in general were busy with their things and they would never give you any extra leverage to communicate with them at will. You have to make efforts from your end to get noticed by them. Number of faculty remains of no use as there were a lot of changes as some left while some new joined but to be a part of faculty list of faculties one has to have a lot of experience under their belt. The management doesn’t take any chances and college needs to be appreciated for that.
Extremely poor so if you think that you can get big bucks from KMC please drop all such ideas. The placement cell is more or less a compulsory choice for the college and that is why they operate. They will do all the drills but will make it clear that it is nearly impossible to place all the students as B.Com students can hardly offer anything to the organizations. They were in a way right as it’s true that in modern times when engineers find it tough, how B.Com students can expect big bucks.
The college has a big boy’s hostel at the campus and is little strict as well. The hostel is accessible only to the boys staying there and non-hostellers have to wait for their friends outside. 10 pm is the deadline and if you fail to enter by then, you have to stay out. Breaking rules often can lead to suspension from the college. From what I learned the life at hostel was amazing as they had their elections and events and students staying at the hostel had fun unlimited. I have never been a part of the hostel and I so really wish that at some stage I should have had the opportunity to stay at the hostels.
I will start with the auditorium as it was amazing. It could accommodate nearly 300 students and was sufficient for all the guest lectures and college events that took place at the auditorium. The canteen had that steel chairs and was filthy too be honest. It did provide food and beverages at affordable rates but in terms of cleanliness, it scores a big zero. The library too wasn’t that big and the numbers of books were also limited. It is quite possible that you won’t find books of your choice at the library always. The lawn besides the library was quite beautiful and even in heat the students didn’t mind sitting there and having fun. The front lawn of the college known as the Ashoka Lawn was also damn beautiful and those two were perhaps the only beautiful thing about the college infrastructure.
Societies were amazing and also the annual fest was cool. The crowd of the college was decent that many other colleges as there are some back gate entries and many rich students have forced their way into the college. I was made some fond memories during the three years of my college life at the KMC. One surety that I can give about KMC is that no matter what students will learn a lot at the campus apart from academics.
