University of Calcutta B.Tech CSE Review by student

The university is in JD Block, Salt lake, sector 3 and it has very affordable fees of Rs. 30000. The campus has good facilities including canteen, labs, library, and more. Annual fest Reflexon features sports, coding, and cultural events. Recommended over private colleges for good WBJEE ranks.

This University offers a variety of courses that includes CSE, Information Technology, Optics, EE, ECE, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Instrumentation Engineering, Jute and Fiber Technology, and more. For CSE, a WBJEE rank below 1200 is required for entry. The campus provides a conductive environment with fewer students compared to private colleges, promoting personalized attention and a strong track record in GATE ranks, making it an excellent choice for dedicated students.

At University, notable faculty members include – Prof. Khatua, Prof. Pritha Banerjee, Prof. Rajib Das, Prof. Sankhayan Chowdhury, and more. Most of them hold their Ph.D from ISI, with Rajib sir holding his M.Tech from IIT Madras. Prof Khatua, Prof Banerjee and Prof Chowdhury are known for their interactive and friendly teaching styles. Faculty members are approachable outside class hours, offering guidance through mail and WhatsApp. They actively support student research, fostering a collaborative academic environment. The professor's dedication to student success enhances the learning experience significantly.

Training and placement officer was hired in 2020, after which prominent companies like Accenture, PWC, TCS, Sasken, LTI Mind tree, Cognizant, and many more have hired students. Although there is a room for improvement. The campus has been achieving a commendable 100% placement record (except for the backlog students). Average package ranges from 5-6 LPA. Accenture offered an impressive package of 12.8 LPA, which is usually offered to tier 1 colleges, unlike private colleges where it offers 5.5 LPA. Accenture, CESC and Persistent also hire interns’ on-campus thus encouraging the training of the students. Overall the placement was good, 2024 despite being a tough year has offered good placements, and it will surely be improved more in the coming years.

There are two main campuses -Technology Campus and Rajabazaar Campus. Technology campus houses CSE, Information Technology, and Optics students, while other students have their classes in the Rajabazaar campus. Technology Campus features a modern layout, with air conditioned classrooms, and well-equipped labs. The campus includes facilities like libraries, an auditorium, a central hall, and specialized laboratories. While there is no dedicated sports playground and facilities for sports. However accommodation is not available in technology campus itself, the students are scattered among hostels in Rajabazaar campus and college’s street. Overall the infrastructure is good; however the sports grounds could have been improved.

Technology Campus offers a good and peaceful environment with fewer students it is not crowded at all. The campus hosts vibrant clubs like coding clubs and robotics club, fostering technical skills among the students. The highlight event of the year is "Reflexon" a celebrated fest within the Computer Science Department, featuring coding competition, sports activities, treasure hunts, cultural events and diverse culinary experiences. While recreational facilities are limited, the supportive campus environment is good.
