B.Tech in ME at KJSCE Mumbai: Admissions, Courses, and More

First of all, the campus of this college is amazing. Immediately upon arrival; one sees an amazing lush green campus, which is shared among 4 colleges, including KJSCE Mumbai. However, all are parts of Somaiya University. I joined this college due to various reasons like the high average placements, the enormous campus, and the crowd. Most of the people are super kind and will help you with all sorts of stuffs. There is so much socializing to do that you will never feel lonely. Apart from all those reasons, college has Saturday off in every week (a rare sight to behold in Mumbai colleges) that is just an added bonus and gives you time to cool down from the hectic college life.

I have opted for B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering; however there are multiple courses for you to choose from. The college offers minor and honors courses along with your major degree at no extra cost, the possibilities are multiple. Academics are overall great, there are obviously the theory classes but apart from that, the college offers numerous research clubs that will boost your practical knowledge and provide you firsthand experience. The entry requirements are quite simple, just like most Engineering colleges. You can get admission in your preferred course through JEE Main or MHT CET. Also, you do require 45% or above in your class 12th board exams to be eligible for admission.

The faculty is quite varying. Since, this is an honest review; there are some downsides to some parts. There are faculty members, who are well aware of their field and have mastery over their subject. They teach quite well & engage with students, instead of just ignoring students; they make the lecture engage-able and make sure everyone is acquiring the knowledge. They make sure, no one is left behind. However, a few faculty members are well quite opposite of what was described in the previous few sentences. They just wrap up the lecture quickly, finish the portion, and then leave. Overall, I can say that except few, others are great and I am happy to be taught by them.

Yes, there is a placement cell in the college, quite a successful one. They make sure you have done enough internship that is around 400 hours over 4 years in my course throughout your college life. For experience and boosting your credits, which will help you acquire jobs in the industry quite easily. However in the end, it’s up to the student to gather credit through the given opportunities.

The hostel facilities are very well maintained and they offer rooms based on all types of demands. There are 3 hostels in the campus itself and another one in the Sion Campus, which is also owned by the Somaiya University. There are all sorts of rooms such as 4 seater, 3 seater, 2 seater, single rooms, and even a dormitory system. Hostel residents are offered great facilities; there are multiple sports grounds, gym, vending machines for your late night cravings, and obviously the mess which provides food through the day. Hostel students are free to leave the campus as they like however, they have to return by 10:30 PM every night.

Infrastructure wise KJSCE is one of the best colleges in Mumbai, maybe even all over India. The classrooms are air conditioned, with comfortable chairs allowing you to focus on the lecture with no discomfort. The buildings are very well maintained. However, the college is quite old but it’s not a major issue and mostly the buildings are greatly designed; You will feel like you are in one of those movie colleges. There are multiple libraries with well stocked books on all sorts of topics that are accessible throughout the day till 10 PM. The college has top class sports amenities. A huge track ground, indoor badminton, tennis, volleyball courts, basketball court, swimming pool, and all sorts of other sports. So, for someone looking to make a career in sports, or even as a side hobby, the college is perfect.

Extracurricular activities are happening all the time, there isn’t a week that goes by without these activities happening, and your college email inbox will be filled with information about them. Though, I have yet to experience the fests, and do not have much to say about them. From what I have heard from seniors, other students, and social media; the fests here are one of the best, something to really look forward to while making tons of memories. Various club options are available in all sorts of fields; you are not restricted to only Engineering related fields. The KJSCE Mumbai crowd is generally friendly and most people are here to make a good career so, they are in their own world.
