Auro University BJMC Review By Rajvirsinh Rathod

After making up my mind to go for Mass Media course, I searched out for colleges and came across many colleges. Surat doesn’t have other options other than Auro but there are a lot of colleges offering this course in Mumbai. Mithibai College of Arts is one of the most famous colleges for that but BMM offered there is a three-year course while at Auro its one year course. Thus, it was easy for me to decide that Auro is the one that I should enroll at. Being in my city, it was also one of the pluses and my family to agree to send me out for PG but UG has to be done in front of their eyes. College started early and likewise finished early. I had all the day to do whatever I wanted because we would be free by lunch during the first six months. The rigorous internship for over a period of six months was the biggest breakthrough of this course as bookish knowledge hardly matters in Journalism.

The division of course that is six months of studies and six months of entirely practical internship where we all were awarded mentors to look after us. Internship was more serious than one can imagine as we had to be present full time and because we were paid a small stipend our bosses will make sure that even suck the last blood drop out of us. I still know that I have come home late at night as even though University told us to just go time to time but the greed of getting a nice certificate from the one who made us intern at their firm made not just me but many of my classmates work till extra hours and give all their sweat and blood. I would take it positive though as if we haven’t done that, we would have never known about the challenges that the industry we will be a part of has.

Faculty’s role was quite limited and in our modernized classrooms more than the course they would boast the university. I wasn’t that impressed with the kind of faculty we had but at Auro but at the end of the day it was internship program that mattered and university faculty hardly had any role there. They would bank on our success though that we helped us get the internship but one should credit university to bringing some reliable people on board to take sure of students during the internship.

At 19, we can’t be working and most of us were from sound background to do a or take a job in hurry. When placement cell confronted us that if we need jobs or do, we want to continue with the firms we did internships at, most of us in one voice said no. We all made our groups and likewise went for higher studies at our choice of institutes. Placements are there for taking but doing PG from nationalized institute will help you get a job with a nationalized company rather than local news or media houses in Surat. At Auro, only the local press, media, and PR agencies came for placements and if you can be confined to that, then placements are 100% for sure.

Auro University has taken care of all the things that a world class University should. The hostel of the University was beautiful but still no takers as outsiders don’t even know about the University. Many local channels have even gone on to stay that the University is fake as no studies are done over there and all this have meant that students who can afford Auro’s fees have rather opted to take admissions elsewhere. I hope the positivity soon reaches the people because everything at Auro was same as in other universities. The hostel rooms will be filled and students coming from outside will enjoy a nice hostel life because the hostel rooms and food was as good as you will find.

Few hits and few misses. Hits would be the interior but miss would be the location because if my bike had a breakdown the Ola would take 200 bucks to get me to the university. University has sporting facilities but I hardly saw students going to the backyard and have a shot. Like in many universities that I know, sports are mandatory and Auro needs to follow that because I saw that grounds were stopped maintain and playground was mostly decorated to accommodate other events of the university. University has one of the best auditoriums as there are two. For combined events of the university the large auditorium is sufficient while for respective college the smaller was more than enough. Classrooms are class apart and probably one of the most decorative universities that you will find.

Hardly stayed at the campus so probably one should ask students of other departments to know what campus life was there at the University. I have always seen happy and smiling faces at the university and that draws the inference that students were satisfied with the University.
