National Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Ganeshan Chettiar

If I say that NIT, Calicut has failed to meet my expectation, people will laugh at me. When you enter IITs or NITs, you go in with many expectations, and likewise, I also had many. Most of them were full filled, while some didn't. Since the college has the best pedigree and provides students with the best jobs, I will talk about the best parts of the college. Suppose you want a break while studying, then never join NIT, Calicut, as you will not get any. Be ready to wake up at 6 am and study till at least 10 pm, if you want to pursue M. Tech from here. You can never relax as each semester is important. The end result will be satisfied as you will see your hard work being paid off with a high-paying job.

Even if you can pass an exam by the least possible grade, then please pass it. Failing in more than two subjects will make you ineligible for ATKT. Half the students complete their M. Tech in three years, as completing in two is tough. I luckily passed all with the narrowest margin and therefore was in the marque set of the college. Yes, a division exists at NITC. Those who clear the first two semesters without any back are considered marque students. I am sorry if this answer has bored you but trust me, studying at NITC was boring.

Faculties were passed out not just from India's top colleges, but some of them were NRI Guest faculties who used to stay at the guest facilities of the campus. Other than the core faculties, many faculties from outside and industry experts were invited to teach us. It was parallel teaching as industry experts used to help us with industry knowledge. Even though it was like, I started from scratch the faculty never felt me or for that matter, anyone inferior. Once they are done teaching a topic, they will ask questions immediately, and all the doubts will be answered then and there itself. Thus, a level field for students to learn and research as much as they want.

Placement of NIT needs no discussion as B. Tech students get top jobs then just imagine what kind of jobs the M. Tech students must be getting. It was nothing short of a fortune as a payment of 10 LPA was unimaginable in my family because no one in my house has done corporate jobs before. Once I did it, all my family members have followed my path and have or are pursuing engineering. TCS has been NITC favorite as their men trained us and while coming for placement, they already knew about our expertise. The placement process was so smooth that probably all M. Tech students were placed in areas of their expertise in one month.

Hostels are invariable as old hostels are at one corner, and the newly built hostel reserved for B. Tech students are at other locations. Even though I stayed at the old hostel, the rooms were clean and hygienic. No one has to worry about food as veg, and non-veg mess are different. You can pick and choose the one you want. Not just the rooms, but the mess was equally clean. There was a Milma dairy close to the mess, and students who are fond of curd as many were used to get their curds and have chapatis along. The hostel was fantastic but just a bit old.

The campus is divided as the college campus is stretched in two corners. The road next to the college has half the campus at other side of the road. The campus is vast, as all NITs are. There are many sports grounds and the best sporting facilities for students to play Hockey, Cricket, Football and Volleyball. The only problem is with the college location as unlike Kochi, where we had many places to go near the college, NITC has nothing close to the college. One good thing is that just outside the college there's a bus stop from where you will get a bus to almost all the city places. Multiple canteens will give you lip-smacking dishes.

NITC, one of the oldest NITs, invites students from various parts of the country for fests and competitions. One can know what's going on in IITs and other NITs at the NITC campus. We were also sent to other NITs to perform and participate in competitions. The campus life was a little challenging as it was my first time staying away from my family and having literally no time to do things that I loved. The chaos will always be there if one wants to pursue M. Tech and NITC was no different.
