Student life at NIT Calicut: Events, Education, Campus

Overall Rating
I recently completed my 1st year from NIT Calicut. It was a great experience as I left my hometown for the first time and got into this institute. My first semester was a whole new experience, meeting people from different parts of the country etc. Campus life is quiet good here. You can explore many things, be it sports, academics, cultural etc. The annual tech fest 'Tathva' and the cultural fest 'Ragam' were awesome. The institute has become more close and familiar in the second semester and felt my institute is worth the JEE hard work.
 

Academics Rating
I am pursuing B.Tech in Chemical Engineering. I chose this branch as I felt it is the best option as far as my JEE rank is concerned. For securing seat in the institute, you must give JEE Main examination and clear it with a good score. Admissions are done through JOSAA counselling process which takes place after the JEE Advance examination in the month of June. In a semester, students are required to write a mid semester examination and end semester examination of their respective courses taken. Academics at NIT Calicut are not too stressful and gives students ample amount of time for exploring many other things.
Fee structure in NIT Calicut depends on the annual income of your family. Per semester, a student needs to pay Rs. 62,500 tuition fee and around Rs. 40,000 of mess and hostel fee. However, if your family income is between 1 Lakh to 5 Lakh, you will get 2/3rd tuition fee waiver and if your income is below 1 Lakh, then are not required to pay the tuition fee
 

Faculty Rating
Faculty here is highly qualified and very interactive. They are always ready to assist you in your academics and in any kind of research, if you are interested. Classrooms are just ok but fully equipped for digital presentation with 24hr Wi-Fi facility. You can expect 1 faculty for every 8 students. There is a faculty advisor allotted to every student who will be tracking and looking after both academic and co curricular actives of the student.
 

Placement Rating
Placements here are great and most the students chose NIT Calicut for its high packages and strong alumni network. Companies like Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, BPCL, HPCL, Honeywell etc. hire the students. Overall, the placements are good and the startup and entrepreneurship culture at NIT Calicut is an aspect to look out for.
 

Hostel Rating
Hostels here are just average. For first year boys A, B, C hostels are allotted. The rooms are 3 sharing and quiet comfortable but the rooms are very old and you may need to adjust. Mess is food depends upon your food taste but I feel it is decent.
 

Infrastructure Rating
NIT Calicut has a quiet large campus with all the facilities like playgrounds, swimming pool, indoor courts etc. Campus area is around 300 acres with 12 gates. It has a very large library with a great collection of books and good accommodation for students to study. My favorite thing about the institute is the seminar hall, which are large and ambient. The institute has primary health centre within the campus and there are buses inside the institute to travel. Special mention is the amphitheatre in the institute, which is a garden and very pleasant.
 

Campus Rating
Campus Life at NIT Calicut is awesome with all the sports facilities, hostels, freedom etc. You can expect around 5000 students in the campus and the campus is not very much crowded. There are many clubs to encourage the extracurricular activities of students. The clubs are very diverse, they provide the students with many opportunities. There are many events and festivals celebrated in the institute. You can expect an event almost every month. It is worth to get into this institute if are looking for a good campus and institute life

    After one year of hard work in entrance coaching, I got into NIT Calicut. Since I have entered here, I think my life is somewhat busy. I chose this institute because it has promising placements and it is near my home. There are many programs in institute to keep you engaged throughout the year.     I joined NIT Calicut after securing my admission through JOSAA after scoring good marks in examination. I chose this institute since it is near to my home. The campus is so beautiful and every now and then, there is a program in the institute, which I think, does not happen in most institutes.     I chose Electronic and Communication Engineering. I chose this branch as it is in 5th in rank among all the other NITs. The campus life in is so good. Even though we have so much work, life here is very good and calm. You will never regret choosing this one.     The overall experience here is good. I chose this institute because it was the best I could afford with my rank in JEE main and NIT Calicut provides good placements. The campus is beautiful it is full of trees. I worked hard during my entrance coaching and it was all worth it.
