Madras Christian College BCA Review By Soniya Tyagi

There is no exam for the entrance of UG course in MCC. In MCC, you can go only on behalf of the percentage that you have scored in 12th grade. Madras Christian College is the most popular private college in Chennai and because of this; it has tied up with many top companies. Tambaram Railway Station was the closest to MCC. One cannot deny the fact that many students of MCC have been successful in their life and college should get their due for that. Infrastructure wise the college is very well facilitated. Some absurd rules for girls as there were some reservations for dressing was one harsh rule that we girls had to deal with during our time at MCC.

BCA is one of the most demanding and challenging courses. However, technology excites me and because I didn’t want to be an engineer, I chose BCA. MCC has Greater Campus Opportunity with many reputed companies like HCL, Cognizant, etc. Exams are conducted every 6 months as MCC follow semester-wise exam patterns. The course syllabus was very good and the syllabus is also up to date.

Faculty was good but adamant as they thought Tamil is their first language and student should know Tamil. If a Tamilian student asks a doubt the professors would explain that in Tamil. In class everyone should be treated equal and therefore I felt they were rude. They were expert without a doubt but they have no right to make language a barrier among the students. If this was the case, they should have never roped in students from other states. Half the class strength was outsiders and still such behavior or teaching way was unacceptable to most of us.

Students are eligible for campus interview on completion of 5th semester means he/she is eligible for campus interview on successful completion of 2nd year. Generally, it happens in November or December. Every year many companies select students from MCC. Companies like HCL, Infosys, and Cognizant etc. Out of 180 students from our batch, over 100 got placed. During our batch the average placement was around 4LPA and some lucky students hit the bull’s eye by getting packages in excess of 10 Lakhs. Those were very few to be honest as most of us were in that bracket of 4 to 5 LPA.

Hostels were fine as they kept us chopping and changing in the hostels because one hall is for freshers so that seniors don’t rang the juniors. I was like, we are in the 21st century and we understand compassion. Anyways there are options on the kind of room one needs and would say that they cost me less than my parents budgeted for my stay. Every hall had their mess and because the non-veg food was served along. I had to keep a stone at my heart and then have the food because we were not allowed to take our dinner plates to the room. Nor we were allowed to order the food from outside. The curfew time was also too strict but had no choice because my parents allowed me to come to Chennai and this was the least, I could do for them.

Infrastructure wise the college was equipped and me being a fitness freak, I was that there was a jogging track and a gymnasium. The campus is old but vibrant as there are trees, rocks, and an old English garden where our evenings were spent. A proper indoor stadium with wooden badminton court was our hotspot to burn some calories. Talking about the calories, the canteen was the finest source to gain some because mess food was a complete no for me. The college was so big that we used to change our hangout spots every now and then.

Many events take place at MCC but nothing comes close to the annual event Deepwoods. All department students were free to be a part of annual cultural program that is conducted in every year a month before the semester end. There was something new to learn every day in MCC. Technical and non-technical events are conducted for the students by the management. Students have many opportunities to prove themselves and thereby no student can say that they didn’t have the opportunity to show what they got. Not just in education or cultural events, the college was very keen on sports and every year a sports fest too was organized. I have preserved all the trophies that I won at MCC by participating in sports fest. The competition was always tough and that is how I learn to be tough and get going. Thus, amid all the ups and downs, I would say that MCC is a good career choice and one should never think twice before joining MCC.
