GIBS Business School PGDM Review By Prakhar Paniya

Firstly, the college is little far and one will only see plants around the college. Many new housing societies have come in this area but still the location wise one would feel they are coming to a village. The building and all was new as the college is quite recent but in a short span they have made some excellent industry connects. There are few industries that count on GIBS because they target GIBS students and we were given worksheets as per that. The admission process was simplified as it doesn’t take much to be here. GIBS though is still unknown because many people in Bangalore don't know about the existence of GIBS. If one their vision straight that they just have to get placed than GIBS can definitely help them with that. If you have huge expectation that you will learn something extra, then sorry. If you think, you will have an amazing time at GIBS, again I am sorry. So, you might have to be more sorry but at the end of the day you will be thanking the college for getting you placed in a dream company.

Unlike many B-Schools, where there are no timings in colleges, GIBS was great. The classes timings were fixed and once they are over, you can go out, chill or do whatever you like. No one will come between you and your freedom. Talking about the freedom, there were no good restaurants close by, no theatres nearby, so studying was the only thing left to be done. Studies weren’t that tough but PGDM requires some seriousness as it’s never easy to clear these many subjects. One doesn’t have to be too harsh on themselves but some seriousness in the class and finishing assignments on time is enough to crack PGDM at GIBS.

Talking about their degrees or their experience is again the same narrative that every college has. The best part was that faculty too believed in giving freedom to the students. We were free to express ourselves as almost all our faculties always backed our decisions. PGDM at GIBS was started in 2012 so most of the faculties have been here since then. Some BBA professors too graduated and became professors of PGDM. The college takes care of all and faculties were no exception.

Out of all that I have wrote thus far may sound a little critical but I will stand up and applause the college for its placement drive. We already knew what companies would be coming and what roles they have in store. All students have already sent their requirements and we were sent on interviews accordingly. There was no race like who goes first grabs the best. The recruiters were smart and they didn’t offer the jobs immediately as we came to know about the final placements after 10 days or so from the interview. The placement cell hand us the offers that we have and many students had multiple offer letters. I wasn’t one of those but was happy that I at least had one.

The college is a little biased as the girl’s hostel is inside the campus but boys hostel was outside the campus. Not too far but it wasn’t like a walk able distance. The hostel was big, better, and comfortable in all sense. Nice rooms, attached washrooms and luckily the food that had a lot of flavor and spices. It’s tough to find the food of your choice especially if you are not a south Indian but GIBS has got this part covered. I enjoyed my stay at the hostel to the core purely because of the rooms and the kind of food that was provided.

A newly built building amid a lot of construction sites close by was like a drop of water in desert. The campus was small but beautiful. Greenery starts from the gate itself and there were plants on each floors and even staff rooms. The entire building was air-conditioned and had electricity back-up as all the classes were taken electronically. A statue of Dr. Jagdish Prasad who founded the institute was at the front and then comes the college building. The building had all the modern facilities or it’s safe to say that it was a smart building campus. From elevators to digital library and well-equipped duplex auditoriums, there was nothing that needed any sort of change. Even if the campus doesn’t make any changes for the next five years, it will still be considered a modern-day campus.

The campus life was not so happening but the hostel life certainly was. Even though the college had arranged transportation for the hostel students, we used to go by our means. At campus, there were no sporting facility other than a recreation room that was always full. Juniors used to challenge the seniors and mind you some of them were actually better. I enjoyed thoroughly at the hostel but campus for me was like a place where I have to perform a duty of coming on time and leaving on time.
