St. Xavier's University BA+LLB Review By Anupriya Sengupta

St. Xavier's University is a new extension of St. Xavier's College, established in 2017. My experience with this university is quite good and decent, but the only issue is the security guards keep on telling everyone to wear their ID cards. The college has an academic block, and there are 2 canteens with a gym, mess and hostel facilities for both boys and girls and a games room. A lot of sports are being played on campus, with departmental tournaments and other sports events. I chose this college because I wanted to study law at St. Xavier's and they have a newly established law school of their own.

I have enrolled in the course of B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and I had to give an entrance exam of XLAT (Xavier's Law University Test) almost same as CLAT. It’s usually held online during the admission process and within 2 weeks the college gives a list of names of the students who have been selected in the university. Two lists are given on a span of 1 week. Eligibility is XLAT and your 12th results. Motive for enrolling into this course is completing law along with BA subjects within 5 years, and Xavier's Law School gives you the opportunity to do so.

We have 20+ faculty professors, some of them are guest faculty who have done their master's and Ph.D from reputed institutes and are research scholars for years. Their teaching methods are pretty nice. Some of them are very friendly while some are very strict. You will get materials, PPTs, and notes but listening to their class lectures is important. They are helpful, and help students after the college hours too.

Yes, we have a placement cell which is new for our department. The last batch didn't receive many placements as such; some law firms came and recruited some students. However this year there have been lots of workshops going on to bring more placements for the students.

Yes, hostel facilities are available here. There are 2 different hostels, one for girls and one for boys. The students who stay away from their residential towns or cities live in the hostel. Recreational activities happen in the hostel, it has its annual event known as Chrysalis and sports events also happen for the students.

The infrastructure is the most beautiful part of the campus. If you are a part of Xavier's you will love the campus. The infrastructure includes academic blocks, administrative blocks, a library building, canteens, a games room, a student office, a sports office, and a big quadrangle. There are lifts in every block too.

Campus life is good only if you have friends and you have to make friends to survive at university. We have an annual fest organized by the college known as XAVRANG. University has a huge crowd with several students getting enrolled every year. There are 3000+ students currently. We have various societies/clubs like Sports society, cultural society, photography society, debate society, literature society, etc. We have women and gender cells and, a legal aid clinic for helping students with legal issues. There are inter-departmental sports fests that happens every year and cultural events also happen annually. It’s a good place to study and work for.
