Aryabhatta College B.A Review By Tanvi Sharma

A constituent college of Delhi University, Aryabhatta College is one of the newest additions to the University of Delhi. It was formerly known as Ram Lal Anand Evening College that was converted to a morning functioning college in 2015. The college is currently undergoing to fulfill the criteria for getting a NAAC accreditation. The college offers admission to undergraduate courses in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Delhi University, often followed by an informal interview from the faculty members. Situated in the South Campus, the college has managed to grab attention with its lush green campus and excellent student achievement rates within a short time.

I have enrolled for an undergraduate course in psychology honors, the curriculum for which is followed according to the latest LOCF pattern. Psychology was introduced in the college in 2015 and has been led by a skilled faculty ever since. The admission was based on the average of marks obtained in class 12th and was followed by a short informal interview to bridge the gap between the students and faculty members. The college is one of the very few co-ed colleges that offer an undergraduate degree in psychology honors. The curriculum and course subjects are comprehensive and allow us the scope to explore further in the field. The subjects and practicum taught under the course would be significantly helpful in pursuing our future career goals.

There are 11 departments in our college and the faculty members of each of them have had an ample amount of teaching experience in different colleges under the University of Delhi. Our faculty has 7 assistant professors who have specialized in varied domains, thus we are better able to grasp an understanding of each field of psychology. All the faculty in our department hold a doctorate degree and significant experience in both teaching as well providing counseling on an individual level. This helps us to grab a better understanding of the subjects. The faculty for my course always tries to give its best till we understand what is taught in the classroom. Overall, the faculty present in the college, for nearly all the courses, is experienced, dedicated, and knowledgeable in their respective domains.

The college has a proficient placement cell that works hard to bring big companies to hire students mainly from the department of business economics, management, commerce, and computer science. The roles vary from being a mere intern to holding a full time job. The average package offered is 2LPA and often goes up to 5LPA. Campus placement rounds are held each year and there are certain webinars conducted by the placement cell from time to time to help students gain a better understanding of how to crack a good job. Psychology students do not get placed by the campus, mainly because of the course curriculum and further job requirements. The cell can improve its working to ensure that more and more companies come with attractive offers and incentives for the students of various departments.

Our campus has two academic blocks with a third one that has been under construction since the last 3 years. The blocks are embraced with classrooms, labs, washrooms, staff rooms, and seminar rooms that are well-equipped with fans and lights in classrooms facilitated by air conditioning in labs and seminar rooms. The campus has a playground and a lush green garden cum seating area opposite to the cafeteria, adjacent to the juice corner that makes it an interesting place to be at. The campus is beautiful with a variety of plants and colorful flowers. There is a medical facility provided at our campus along with a peaceful and huge library that has a large enough reading room. Situated in the south of Aravali hills, the infrastructure of our college is better than other colleges in south campus.

The campus life at Aryabhatta college is happening and exciting. The relatively small campus allows students the ease to travel from one block to another while also admiring the workings of various departments throughout the college. There are annual fests conducted by different departments throughout the year and they often include interesting events and activities like treasure hunt, open mic celebrations, band performances, stalls for games, eatery joints, and other small sub-events to promote their cause. Apart from this, there are various societies in our college that organize useful seminars and other events to spread awareness about environmental and other causes happening world over. Overall, the campus life is pretty simple and cheerful at our college. However, do not hold many expectations from the annual official fresher’s or fest celebrations, or you’ll be disappointed.
