LNJN National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science M.Sc Review By Anuj Bhardwaj

The Institute is present next to Jaipur Golden Hospital in Rohini Delhi. I got admission here through the entrance exam organized by GGSIPU. Previously the institute was under GGSIPU but recently the institute has become a part of NFSU. This institute offers two courses MA Criminology and M.Sc Forensic Science. The college has a nice reputation in the field of Forensics in India.

I joined M.Sc Forensic Science. The eligibility was to crack the common entrance exam of GGSIPU. And the eligibility for the entrance exam was graduation in basic sciences with 60% marks. I have done my graduation in life sciences and saw a great opportunity in seeing the real-life application of all the theoretical knowledge of biology in providing justice. The course subjects were far above my expectations. During my two years here I got to know not just biology but other branches of science and their application in the criminal justice system. This course is centered on working in a forensic science lab. You get really nice exposure to the field. So it's really helpful if you want to get a job in the forensic field.

There were very few permanent faculty members are here. But they are quite experienced. All of them have worked in different government forensic science laboratories in senior posts. They are not your average NET qualified teachers, but the experienced forensic scientists of their time. Their knowledge is not limited to the books, while teaching they share their real-life experience, the type of cases they handled, the current scenario of forensics in India, and issues laboratories face in day to day life. All of the senior faculties are PhD holders. I don't think anyone can teach better forensics than the faculty present here. Also the guest faculty invited are experts in their fields and well versed in the subjects they taught.

I got training in Delhi FSL twice after getting a recommendation letter from this institute. There is a placement cell but only private labs, NGOs visit the campus placements. The salary offered while I was there was not more than 25K. Only 30% of students received campus placement.

There is a separate hostel facility for boys and girls. You get a hostel based on merit at the entrance. As I did not take the hostel I can't tell you other details.

The building is sturdy. The gardens are well maintained. The playground is a decent size. A volleyball court is also there. Laboratories are well equipped, clean, and air-conditioned. The library is well managed, has almost all the recommended books for the subjects taught here, and relevant journals and magazines. You could get tea/coffee or snacks in the cafeteria when I was there. But I heard they have improved it now. Basic amenities like the water cooler, clean restrooms are there. The medical facility is not present on the campus but in case of emergency, Jaipur Golden Hospital is just next to the campus.

Initially, the institute was established for the training of judiciary and police personnel and later started teaching post-graduation courses. Therefore it feels more like a government office than your typical college. There are certain restrictions regarding behavior and attire. There are no fests or celebrations except for the welcome of freshers and farewell to the seniors. So consider this before taking admission here.
