M-Tech student’s life at CET

Overall Rating
I chose CET because it is a well-known Government Engineering college in Kerala. The teachers are very sincere and well experienced. Most of them have Ph.D. degrees and regularly take classes.
 

Academics Rating
I took M-Tech in Structural Engineering, which is a two-year course. Preference is given to the candidates, who have cleared the GATE examination with minimum required marks, then it is given to reserved categories like SC, ST, EWS and then CGPA based selection is done. I scored 347 marks in GATE which made me qualified to take admission here. Structural Engineering is the most difficult stream in civil Engineering compared to others, but it also has better job opportunities.
 

Faculty Rating
Talking about the faculties, most of them are well-educated and well-experienced over years. The classes are conducted with the help of PPTs which most of the time are easy to understand. The faculties here are 40+ but are still friendly and approachable.
 

Placement Rating
Yes, there is a Placement Cell in College of Engineering, Trivandrum but most of the placements are for B.Tech students and some of M.Tech. Students get placed in core companies and in IT companies. If the students try enough and sit in every interview, then there is a chance to get placed in a company.
 

Hostel Rating
College of Engineering, Trivandrum only has a single Ladies hostel for B-tech, M-tech, and MCA. So, for an M-Tech student, it might be difficult to get admission in LH. Most of the students are staying in PGs, but the college hostel is affordable and best compared to PGs. Overall, the expense of college hostel is Rs.3000/- to Rs.4000/- while in PGs, students normally pay around Rs.5000/- to 8000/- per month. It has adequate facilities in each room and there will be 4 members in a room with a common bathroom in the hostel.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The campus is huge and has different blocks for different departments. The entire building has sufficient facilities and every class room has a projector. There is a vast central library and separate libraries for departments. A canteen and small stalls are also available in the campus. Staff workers keep the surroundings clean. Additionally, there are open stages to conduct different programs.
 

Campus Rating
The college mainly has two parties, KSU and SFI. They conduct different programs like musical nights, procession, fashion show and dance off for freshers to get engaged and become productive. There are a lot of programs conducted by each department. For Civil Engineering, it is Pantheon and likewise each department has different programs. There are many clubs like IEEE, EDC and they also conduct Techfest. Common festivals like Onam, Halloween, and Christmas are also celebrated.

    College Of Engineering Trivandrum is one of the finest engineering colleges of the state. It is ranked after NIT Calicut and IIT Palakkad. The college provides balance between cultural activities and academic concerns.
