National Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Manish Kashyap

I could attend NITC just for just 8 months effectively as lockdown started and even though we were stuck at the college premises, the lecture theatre remained closed. Our second and third semester exams were done online and online exams as we all know made sure that no one fails. I missed a lot education wise but even while we were in the middle of a pandemic, we were placed with supreme packages. This is the beauty of studying at premium institutes that even if you are an average student inside the institute the branding that you get make you an ideal candidate for many companies that are looking for coders. The coding culture of NITC was at par with that of IIT Madras. Now coming to the infrastructure part, a year before I joined, one student died and because a wall fell on him and because of that the entire institute was inspected and a lot of upgradations happened.

There are two aspects here as when the campus was operational, the attendance was not strict but as soon as it went online during lockdown, the lectures became compulsory. Students were didn’t came for online classes were sent serious notes and even received threats of failing them. It is worth only if I review the part before lockdown as education of NITC was same as that of most colleges, yet the beauty of it was that professors made the lectures interesting by sharing an odd story every other day. The requirements in terms of student’s workload were high because the portions were vast and completing them in the classes was not even possible for the lecturers.

Most of the faculties were quite clear with all the topics that they taught. All the professors took some extra effort to convey the concepts clearly to each student. The best thing about NITC professors was their evaluation process. Many other NIT students have accused NITC professors of passing students even if they don’t deserve to. Well, professors of NITC don’t just see the final answer but they evaluated the papers on the basis of how students have attempted their answers. Even the weakest students were appreciated by our professors as they were clear that we should mug up long answers, if we have used the formulas correctly. I wish all the colleges in India have such professors so that engineering dropout ratio which is indeed one of the highest in India will drop down significantly.

I thought that lockdown will take away our jobs as we were at home for almost the entire 2nd year but in February 2021, a miracle happened, when we received a mail from the college that companies will be taking our interviews online. We got an online test program of the companies and those who cleared were invited for interviews. IT has shown the world that even during pandemic one industry that delivered robust set of numbers was IT. Hence, all those who were picked were picked for figures which was in line with the previous years.

The boys' hostels are divided into two. The main campus has 6-7 boys' hostels and the campus adjacent to the main campus that is on the other side of the road has some newly built boys hostel. M. Tech is a residential program and so even the local students had to stay at the hostels. Now, the hostels had a division as some of them were in dire conditions while some extremely good. Hostels were not cleaned daily and because of it, the hostel always remained messy. There are 4-5 mess operating in the campus and students can chose whichever mess they want to eat from.

The college is massive as the main campus has classrooms and hostels while the one adjacent to it also has hostels and a guest house. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled and the library had almost every single book and journals required. Sporting facilities wise many facilities were shut during our time due to the incident that happened a year before. I am sure they must have been put in order by now and students can enjoy whichever sports they love. There are some canteens at the campus and a Milma dairy shop.

Even though I spent less than 12 months at the campus, the life whatever I spent their will always be in my memory. Still remember the technical fest called Thathva. All limits of advancements in technology crossed there as some brilliant students of the college showcased their project that will bring a revolutionary. Some of them even received funding upfront as many investors, politicians, and celebrities came to watch the event. So, the college doesn’t just provide the job opportunities but if you are ready to bring a change, the college will help you find potential investors too.
