Perception of Sophomore Medical Student about GMC, Thrissur

Overall Rating
I chose GMC because it is one of the top medical colleges in Kerala. It is well known for dances, sports, arts and other cultural programs. After clearing NEET fortunately, I had the cutoff marks to get into this college. The reason I chose this course is because it was my father’s all time dream to see me as a doctor. After coming to this college, I'm overwhelmed with pleasure.
 

Academics Rating
MBBS entry is purely based on NEET UG examination. To get in Government Medical College, we need to get higher cutoff marks maybe about 600 or above out of 720. Our course is running under CBME curriculum that is Competency Based Medical Education. During my first year, I had subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry.
 

Faculty Rating
All the faculty members here are doctors with specialty in their own subjects. I’m currently studying in second year. All the professors of first year had proficiency in their subjects. They taught with such sincerity and put much effort in making us understand certain concepts. Now in second year, in additional to theory subjects we have clinical postings in different departments in hospitals. The doctors here are also very supportive and explain about every ward and OP cases to us.
 

Placement Rating
There are no placements available at our institute. Instead, we have internships here. It is for final year students and proceeded in our college’s government hospital.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, we have residential facilities in our institute. Hostel life is kind of good. There are about five hostels for girls and two hostels for boys. I’m currently staying in six students sharing room. Mess food is of high quality and easily affordable. The accommodation rent is only 40 rupees per month. We don’t have curfew at hostels.
 

Infrastructure Rating
There are several buildings in GMC. Our college is situated in 250 acres of land. In additional to academic block, there are indoor stadiums, GYM, auditoriums, etc. In our academic block, all the lecture and seminar halls are air-conditioned and have a capacity of 200 students, as our batch strength is 175.
 

Campus Rating
Overall, campus life is so far so good more than I expected. The seniors are very friendly and our institute is an anti-ragging institute. There are so many cultural programs and fests every year. Xmas, Onam, Holi, Diwali celebrations, PG night, and graduation programs for seniors are some of them.
