SJES College of Management Studies MBA Review By Adeesh Meena

I don't believe in sugar-coating things as I have been a little critical of my previous College SKIT Jaipur too. If you have attained good percentiles in CAT, XAT, MAT or others, try to find a better option than SJES as SJES is far from the definition of best. This is true, but this is half the picture. Why does one do an MBA? To get placed in an organization which otherwise, he/she can't. SJES provides you that opportunity. Placements may not be 100% and I will again not fathom about it, but everyone was treated equally and trained like others to find a job through campus placements. Those who lack confidence will find it hard to get placed. I wish I knew this before because during my interviews after engineering this was one attribute that I lacked and SJES got monkey off my back by making me confident enough. There's a reason why students from all across the country come to Bangalore as Bangalore city will make a person confident enough as lowest of lows and highest of highs are a significant part of College life in Bangalore.

MBA general here is the second course because the 1st course here is Aviation management. So, students of MBA general will always be a second fiddle. I don't mind being second, because the quality of education is seamless and the process is followed which indeed followed at SJES. The classrooms are advanced and MBA needs more assignments and projects to learn things. Hence, from learning through projects and workshops, it was an amazing experience as a technical student might lack business attributes but a businessman can hire the best people with technical attributes. So, that's the difference between a management and an engineering student.

Faculties were assigned a role by the management and they stuck to that. Things went in a set pattern as not much tactical changes or unplanned events happened, and they followed the suit with precision. So, as far as faculties are concerned, you will be aware of what to expect from whom and how are they going to deliver. In management studies relying along on the faculties can again be a glaring error. I didn't make that mistake and would be an advice to others that do self-study as much as you can and go to them for help only when required.

I finally came out of the traps and got placed in the first round itself. Like me, many other students too, were placed upfront in start-ups of which we see ads on televisions. So, even though start-ups their valuations today are in billions. Among the listed companies, a few were there as the College has its tie-ups with the companies of the aviation sector. What matters though, is that students should have placements which most of the students had. Once the placements are done on time, the student can relax and play their hearts out as the tension of getting placed wasted my campus life for the first three semesters.

You need to have a strict mindset when going to hostels. I enjoyed my hostel life, but one has to learn to adjust. Not with the roommates, but with the kind of food that will be provided to you. We had a group of students from Rajasthan, as many students from Rajasthan have made their way here, but eating South Indian dishes was never in our destiny is what we felt. At the hostel, though, one has to compromise a little; as I had my food at the mess; some students avoided that and used to travel miles for their meals. The hostel was good and for the ones who love South Indian Food, it can be a treat, but for those who don't, it can be a devil's nightmare.

The Infrastructure was not at all attractive and was far from the College I attended in Jaipur. The classes and building were well-maintained, but I was used to large auditoriums, open playfields, and plenty of options to eat. If you wish for all those, I am sorry; but SJES will disappoint you. Academic wise Infrastructure was well constructed as labs and conference rooms were designed amazingly. Other than that, though, it's safe to say that as per the standards set by Colleges and Universities of Bangalore, it was disappointing.

I lived in the feat that what if I didn't get placed and that deprived me of many activities that happened at the campus. Every month a debate competition was held among the students on trending topics. I skipped most of that while I tell you that was the best source of learning how to interact and put your point forward. Once I got placed, I still had two months left at SJES, and in those two months, I didn't miss out on a single opportunity to be a part of College societies and contribute to the best of my abilities.
