'Doon University' will help you get over your guilt of failing to get admissions elsewhere. In integrated courses, it is tough to get admissions, but in B. Com or B.A. It's quite simple. I had 68% in 12th and I got admission here. The University is known for learning languages as B. Com students; we always had the options open of learning foreign languages alongside. The administration of the University is very pleasing. Many skill programs are running throughout the year and are open to students of all courses. Some faculties were great as most B. Com students here were also pursuing CA alongside and there are coaching classes for that inside the University. Most Universities in Dehradun are private Universities, while 'Doon University' is a state-owned University and a graduation certificate from it holds an edge over the private Universities. Even B. Com from here was a job-oriented program as we all were pursuing some or the other certification courses alongside to have a skill or two.

The B.Com course for those who were doing B. Com alone used to have a chill as we used to have three lectures daily. Each lecture was 50 minutes long and in four hours, we could leave the campus as we were more or less done for the day. The attendance, too, wasn't that strict as most students were pursuing something or the other, as I did a certification course in learning German language. So apart from the course, there is enough learning available that one can bide their time at the beautiful campus and at the same time learn a couple of skills as well.

If I had to rate the faculties of B. Com, yes, they were average. I got this notion at the start as some of them were least interested in teaching. Some, though, were exactly the opposite as they loved their profession and were always helping us. They were happy with every small progress that we made by learning a skill as they were clear that nowadays a B. Com degree can't even help you get an accountancy job. The faculty of the certification program were exceptional as the best people were brought on board to teach professional skills to the students. There was no compromise in that as those faculties took all the classes and we were awarded certificates only if we deserved them.

There were no placements for B. Com students and in fact, the placements at the Doon University were quite light. I saw many integrated program students even, and they too had to find jobs off-campus. MBA students and others were preparing for placements, but for the B. Com department, it was a sorry situation in terms of placements. We were guided though, as the students who have done a skill program here to where we can find jobs. How we can apply for the jobs in which we have specialized. So a lot of guidance was provided, but unfortunately, it didn't turn into campus placements.

There are one boys and two girls hostels at the campus. Most students, as more than half the students from my class, were hostellers. Even people from Dehradun had the option of opting for the hostel and some of my friends from Doon also stayed at the hostels. The hostel facilities were excellent and the new girls' hostel building was the best of them. The hostel rules are quite strict and students had to obey all the rules otherwise, a couple of warnings and then a direct send-off.

The University has settled all the beef through its Infrastructure. One can complain on the above aspects but has no right to question the Infrastructure of the University. It was beautiful, yes, one could debate its far off from the main city. The buildings all have all the modern facilities available, from smart classrooms to fully automated libraries. Wherever you move, you will have trees around you and the weather in the city is non-questionable anyways. When most parts of India face heat waves, we have rains in Dehradun. There are beautiful cafes at the campus and a lovely sports ground that sums up the beautiful Infrastructure of the University.

Life at ‘Doon University’ is amazing only if you feel you belong here. From skill programs and workshops, the University organizes various music and dance fests. Every festival is being celebrated at the campus and the notice board of the campus is always full of upcoming events. There are clubs and a cell where you can register your name and if chosen, you can show your magic. The magic was at the campus itself as the university provides various opportunities to develop, but students are never forced as it's up to an individual to do it or not.
