Doon University Dehradun Was Established in 2009

It is a good state Government Institution and the Campus is quite big, with clean and non-dusty roads. Some of the buildings like the Department of Technology are still being made, but the infrastructure overall is quite good. I chose this University because it was near my home, and I had a decent score in my JEE mains. The key difference Doon University Dehradun has is that it lets you learn different languages, both local and International if you want. You can choose other activities/course such as Theatre, Drama, and Music irrespective of your main stream in between semester.

I have chosen B.Tech (CSE) in this University because I had interest in this field. The eligibility criteria was based on JEE Main scores, and it needed at least 73 percentile for a Uttarakhand student belonging to the general category to get admission this year, and 65 percentile or above was required for individuals belonging to SC/ST category this year. The important documents which are needed in the admission process are similar to what is required in other Institutions. The implementation of learning a Foreign language in every degree is what I like about this University.

The fee of my chosen stream is Rs. 50,000/- which includes Rs. 40,000/- as tuition fee and 10,000 as other fee per semester. This facilitates admission fee, which is Rs. 2000/-, caution money is Rs. 5000/-. There were many scholarship programs introduced to us while the semester was going on.

Some of the faculty members are really nice and they share a good ratio between male and female teachers. Most of the professors teach using a white board, however some teach using PPTs. The problem solving abilities is good of a few teachers; and most of them are very approachable and friendly towards the students and with me also. Overall, the faculty here is very decent, and their teaching style is also good.

The placements here are very average. There are many Internship programs performed in the Institution for the us to participate in between courses or holidays, which can help students to be industry ready from the start of the curriculum itself.

Doon University Dehradun offers residential facilities to only a few selected students. For individuals who are already pursuing their degree, the hostel room selection is based on the marks they have gotten in the previous semesters. In case of a new admission, the hostel is allotted on the basis of your entrance exam score. The girls and boys hostels are separate and they have a distance of approximately 700-800 metre between them. The boy’s hostel have their own separate rooms to live in, for no chaos and high concentration which is good. The mess food is quite good and edible too.

The infrastructure for the Department of Technology and some other courses is still being made, and most probably it will complete by the end of this year or earlier. The Campus is quite big; it is mostly clean and filled with greenery inside. The locality around the University is good and the nearest bus station is about 1-2km away at a walking distance, so there isn't much problem in transportation also. The library is good, the security is friendly and nice as well. The football and basketball ground are my favourite places here.

The Campus life is overall good; many students from different places come here. There are many clubs in the University such as Drawing, Theatre, Drama, Music, etc. I'm planning to join one in the near future for sure. There are many extracurricular activities which are organised periodically. One of them is NCC which is good for all students if they want to join other army related jobs in the future. Fests occur a few times, 2 to 3 fests took place in the first semester. A few Government events or events like Hackathon and some sports events also take place in this Institution frequently. Overall the University is very nice, and it is pretty close to the main market of Dehradun.
