LPU M.Tech Review By Ritik Gulati

I think what made the biggest difference at LPU is that LPU is a University of stature. Many students from other states do come and study here. Punjab Universities otherwise hardly have students from Northern states, but at LPU, people from east, west and south come for studies. LPU has not been around since ages, but has still become a senior pro in terms of Indian Universities. LPU has enough energy that is translated into students once they come here for studies. At any University, few things have to be in place to hold everyone together. If that thing is infrastructure, LPU has done it; if that thing is placements, then LPU has overdone it. All in all, LPU carries on doing its business like a leader. LPU on the whole has brought a different outlook to the Universities in Punjab. The only problem that I see with LPU is that LPU is a special University but still lags in terms of popularity while comparing it with BITs, IITs, or others.

Since, popularity of the University never came in the way of academics, the University has made the academics functional and that is what LPU has added the most. I am short of a good word to sum this thing up. Oh, I got the word; LPU is an antithesis of what Indian Private Universities used to be. LPU is in your face kind of a leader and that's the special quality of LPU academics. No matter what, you can't have lesser attendance and not be debarred. University holds every right to debarred a student if they are not functioning the way the University wants them to be. The University is particular with academics as their recipe has always been to make students skilled rather than producing tailor-made engineers.

Some faculties were PhD and others who were not have rubbed their qualities to them. The faculties led a successful campaign as they have raised their bar every year. The management was never satisfied with the faculty, but they never showed their frustration on students. The best thing was that they know how to get their job done and after having so much experience, they have become pro. All in all, the faculties of LPU operated like a good machine with good oiling done on them.

The University was under immense pressure to place the students to get up in rankings. So, I will call placements a party because it was a party mood during the placements as almost all 600 students of M. Tech from our course had the placements. If not all, over 80% for sure because the lists were out every single day for 2 weeks and the hostel would go wild as crazy things happened after the placements. Students getting paid bomb was not new for those who did B. Tech from here, but listening to the figures like 40 LPA and others were unheard of for me. The average placements were around 9-10 LPA as some students missed placements while below par students couldn't get themselves placements for over 5-6 LPA.

Hostels are one of the best acquisitions of LPU campus. Hostels of LPU have not matched hostels of IITs but have surpassed them with the quality of hostels and more importantly, with the facilities of the hostels. Staying at the hostels gave us a slight advantage because for hostellers many facilities remained open till late night. So, in many ways, we had the opportunity to get a feel of campus life more than those of day scholars. We better know what works at the University and what doesn't. Then, talking about the food part, it was again excellent.

Many unknown areas at the campus will be there for everyone. There were many food joints and I want to ask the guys, do you remember which cafes were there? I am not good with numbers and therefore the count of the buildings at the campus is beyond me. Even the count of libraries is beyond me because there were that many. It tends to be one of the best campuses, not locality wise, but in many ways. Food joints and shopping complexes are common in many Universities in the south, but having a stadium inside the campus is uncommon. Yes, there was a stadium of stature with complete flood lights and dropping pitches installed during the University tournaments. Well, I wish I could pull out every inch of the infrastructure, but because I am bad with numbers, it's way over my head to explain everything in detail.

Gone are the days when, many years ago, students used to attend classes and come back to their hostel and watch series after series. The LPU campus has so much happening that I popped into many events which were not of our department. Providing a quality campus life to the students has been LPU's main strength.
