Unfortunately, I did engineering from JLU Bhopal and little did I know that JLU is best for mass media, journalism and Law. Their school of law has done exceptionally well in such a little time. The engineering campus is more of an isolated one as the university is operating from two campuses. I joined the college in 2014 and it was renamed a year before and therefore a lot of construction was going on for the first two years after I joined. The JLU School of Engineering was located at the Chandanpur Campus which was lesser than the Mungalia Chhap campus. The Chandanpur campus was bigger than the Mungalia Chhap campus but in terms of looks, that was better. Unfortunately, the university was still new when I had joined and there were just a handful of students like CSE for which universities like LPU had 2500 students, JLU had just 300. So, all in all infrastructure wise, the university is best but in terms of studies, it’s like any other private university.

Academic standard here wasn’t that high as there were just three batches in which the students of CS were divided. A batch of 100 meant difficulty in nurturing as on some days the seminar hall would see all 300 sitting together for a class. Thus, the atmosphere which is called stimulating for preparation of studies or competitive exams was not there at JLU campus. The labs were under developed for the first two years and the only things fully developed were the classrooms and the library.

I agree that the students were low back then but still what I feel is that the number of faculties at JLU were much lower than the actual required faculties that should be there at any university. The faculties though were the best as they all were IIT passed out and were all Ph.D. degree holders. The faculties have set the pattern and they were happy with that route as they didn’t feel like changing that route even if it was required. If this is how engineering is taught then I am sorry but the university needs to rethink. By the time I left the infrastructure was ready and even the strength started increasing but till then most of us already lost faith in engineering.

Very little would be an exaggerated word because hardly any assistance was provided. Due to its international ties, many companies came but looking at our expertise, they flew as they understood that students here are of no use to them. Out of all, only a handful were hired as if I go by the numbers out of 300 CS students, 40 or at max 50 must have been placed. The university charged us for preparing for placements and that training too didn’t help and when asked about the same to the university, they said they can’t help it. In 2018, we were just the second batch and probably the time will change soon as students start entering this beautiful university.

The university looks to be ever ready as there were enough blocks and three high rise towers of 14 floors too built to make sure students have the best accommodation facilities. The hostels were super amazing as the blocks which were ready were fully operational and also the three-seater rooms had single or at max 2 students staying in it then. Out of 300 students from my batch, half were outsiders and as per their experiences, they were pretty happy with the overall hostel facilities. The food quality, the rooms, and everything about the hostels were tremendous.

The engineering college was located on an isolated land of Chandanpur campus. The campus is over 200 acres big and has almost all the facilities that one can imagine. In safe words, the campus has a larger than life image because it is probably one of the best campuses in entire central India. The classrooms were like drawing boards with twin projectors on display. More than inside, it was the library shape that made the talking. A pyramid styled structure with 3 floors inside it. Our department had one auditorium and besides that there were three other auditoriums. There were three restaurants, one hotel, one hospital, and whatnot.

My campus life ended on a strong note but started off dull. There were no events in the first year and it all started happening from the second year. In the final year, we had n number of events. If I name them, I can probably fill a page as TedX, Rangoli event, Janmashtami celebration, Fish Pond, and whatnot. The cultural event saw some other Bhopal as I had never seen such a lively crowd in Bhopal in my entire life. It wasn’t good then but I expect it to be a better place to study and have a great campus life.
