FORE School of Management PGDM Review By Simran Gupta

FSM believes in building leaders of tomorrow and that is why our studies too were like that. The college is located in one of the most prime locations in the city and that made it easier to get here. Education here is more of a mindset than a style of play in terms of studies. Time at FSM Delhi was like sailing on a cruise with no one to stop us. The time I spent here was magnificent but in many ways, the story here was the academics and the placements. Academics was such that industries had no other options but to hire us. The college indeed surprised me for all the good reasons as I thought, we might not have much of an industrial exposure because the portions were vast. Well, I was surprised there as the industrial tour was a thing of curriculum and we went almost every month. However, one thing that has to be kept in check is that there is no place for complacency. Teachers are friends but only for the right reasons as many students thought because they have their backing, they will pass everything but the opposite of that happened with them.

Only the brilliant students get here as the college was in the top 25 B-Schools of India when I joined. Of course, the ranking has dipped a bit but that may be for all the good reasons happening with other B-Schools as FSM doesn’t need to change at all. A mentality or rather a mindset was made here by the faculties that this is the pace and this is how our academics work. We don’t just want to finish because we have to but because we want to make sure you learn or understand the aspects that are there in the books were the words from our management.

What I didn’t realize at the start was that the faculties of FSM have a different mindset and they worked on changing our mindset. We all went to the college for placements but the college had other ideas and more so the faculties had other ideas. They all have been the leaders of the college as they hold as much power as the management does. They wanted us to be in a similar situation because the leaders can hang on even in the tough times but the rookies can’t. The faculty's game plan may be different but an effective one for sure.

After investing one year in preparation for entrance exams after graduation and getting to one of the top colleges, I would have kicked myself, if I wasn’t placed. The placements are around 80% or so as only the ones who became complacent missed out. Those who were serious and followed all that was told were placed and placed well. Companies like Nestle, HUL, ITC, Bharat Forge, Rain Industries, Amazon, and others for whom we did many internal projects came and just a brief interview is all that they took. In the brief interview too, the maximum time was spent on discussing the salary because they already knew what we were capable of and presenting us with a salary for which we couldn’t care any lesser.

The college has a hostel named Rajhans hostel and one block was all it has it had floors reserved both for boys and girls. The mess, library, and other facilities which were on the third floor were shared by the students. The hostel was great but it isn’t mandatory to stay at the hostel as firstly, the hostel is not inside the campus and secondly, the capacity is less. For outsiders, a hostel was a good option because their travel was taken care of by the college.

Just a building without not much space to hang out is all that FORE has presented us with. Just one basketball ground in the name of outdoor space because after parking and all, the only space left was filled with a basketball court. There were still some leftover areas that were not used and college management might be the best person to answer that. If the outdoor sporting facilities were poor, the indoor facilities were equally good as there were a couple of recreation rooms with facilities like Table Tennis, Chess, and others. The college has also set up an online gaming room and students who were good at it were encouraged to play online tournaments. The college’s cultural and sports division took care of participation fees and all. The college’s canteen Chat UP! was rather the coolest place on the campus as it always kept buzzing during every break.

The campus life starts off with a fresher’s party which was thrown by our seniors. Likewise, we had to do the same the next year. The sports competition Section Wars was organized every semester. This event was held between sections and the champion section was rewarded after winning from out of 8-10 sports. The last event of FSM was the Farewell where tears rolled out from everyone’s eyes because we were prepared to face the world but not leave the college so soon.
