TNNLU for CLAT Aspirants: Campus Amenities and Course Options

TNNLU is located in the outer part of the city of Tiruchirappalli, approximately 15 KM from the central bus stand. However, reaching it is not difficult since it has its own bus stand to pick up and drop the students to and from the university. Once reaching university, you can notice that the campus is not huge but not small either. The campus is divided into administration, residence, and academics, with an administration building, a residential hostel for both boy’s and girl’s with apartments for the faculty, and a dedicated building for the undergraduate and postgraduate. Amenities such as library, canteen, badminton court, basketball court, volleyball court, cricket, and football ground are outfitted in the campus. All these amenities are well lit and maintained. The university tries to provide all the necessary things within the campus. it is especially near for students of Tamil Nadu, who can visit home on weekends.

The university provides two courses, namely BA and B.Com. For people with a Commerce background, choosing B.Com LLB is beneficial since the subjects are not that different from the subjects of 11th and 12th. The students of Commerce will have ease in studying and passing the subjects. Meanwhile, students from science backgrounds may face trouble with both courses, but the teachers try to make the subject comprehendible for students of all backgrounds. Once the student clears the CLAT exam and is allotted TNNLU, they will be given the choice to choose from both BA and B.Com. they can choose according to their own preference. Even after choosing the course, you will have the opportunity to change your course. The exams are held twice a semester, namely mid-sem and end-sem. The mid-sem portion will be decided by the faculty, and the end-sem portion covers the whole syllabus. The Law subjects will be the same for both courses for 3 years, and from 4th year onward, you can choose your electives according to your preference. After every completion of the semester, students are provided with a 1-month internship break during the winter and a 2-month internship for the summer. A criterion is being laid down for students interning, and the students will be required to fulfill the criteria since at the start of the next semester they will be asked to submit an internship report and will be marked accordingly.

The fee for both the courses is same. The fee is independent of the course you choose. It is are reasonable and affordable when compared to some other NLUs and private universities, charging significantly less fee for students who belong to a specific category. On top of this, scholarships are also provided for students who fulfill the criteria set by them. The fee for a student belonging to category OBC is 2 Lakh inclusive of hostel fee.

Being a student of B.Com LLB, I encounter trouble all the time, but the faculties are always there to help me out. The faculties are well aware of the fact that students from different backgrounds are enrolled in the course and they teach according so that all students understand the concept. The faculty holds doubt-clearing sessions. The faculties are well versed in the subjects they teach. Some faculties are PhD holders. The faculties all have different methods of teaching, but it is always a combination of backboard and smart board coupled with PPTs group discussion and real-life scenario creation. The faculties often use practical and real-life cases to explain the concept. The teachers are available and easily approachable. Students can reach out to them in their cabin for any doubt or problem the students encounter.

The university has its own placement committee created with the specific purpose of bringing placement to the university. The committee works hard in contacting the firms for interviews. Students play a vital role in the committee of contacting and researching about the firms.

One of the most prominent features of TNNLU is the facility of the residence hostel. The university provides residence to both girls and boys through separate girls and boys hostels. The hostel rooms are big and spacious and divided into 3 floors. The 1st floor is occupied by the 1st years and LLM, the 2nd floor is occupied by 2nd years and 4th years; and the 3rd floor is occupied by the 3rd years and 5th years. The 1st and 2nd floors have mess, while the 3rd floor has a common ac room for the students to sleep in. Hostel food is the same as every hostel, and the menu is open to change. with accommodation made chapattis, dal, and other stuff. However, the hostel gates are closed by 10pm and open by 6am the terrace gate stays open until 11pm. Personally, my experience in the hostel is unique, and some of the best moments of my life with my friends playing in the hostel are the best part.

The infrastructure of the university was created 10 years ago but is not old and torn. The buildings are renovated quite frequently, especially the building for undergraduates and postgraduates. The administrative block along with the library is maintained on a recurring basis. All the buildings are equipped with air conditioning except for individual hostel rooms. All classrooms are equipped with smart projectors and can seat a total of 80 students. The university has a multipurpose hall/amphitheater for the hosting of events, along with a seminar hall and auditorium for special occasions such as convocation. The university has a medical room with an ambulance ready to transport students to a hospital if need be, a sports room, and each club and committee has been allotted their own rooms to conduct meetings and discussions. The university has its own gym with air conditioning, which is my favorite thing with sufficient required equipment.

The campus sometimes gets hectic with extra classes, project discussions, events conducted by various clubs, programs, festivals, sports competitions for every sport, fest including cultural events, and nights designated to celebrate cultures of India. Inception is our largest fest of the university, and Kratos is the largest sports fest of our university, where students get to shine and display their extraordinary skills. For some people, the campus life can be overwhelming, but personally, I prefer the busy life, occupying myself with moot competitions, sports competitions, and other events
