VIIT’s education creates a real impact as Pune is known for its engineering colleges and VIIT is definitely the best. I looked at all the options from Sinhgad Institute to Bharti Vidyapeeth but it was VIIT Pune that stands out according to me. The placements are certainly one of the best in Pune as the college places at least 20 out of 120 students abroad. Even the internship that they provide is in one of the top IT companies. Pune has that advantage as many companies have set up their IT Park in Pune. VIIT builds characters and makes students mentally strong. Look, computer studies are all about tactics and to apply that one has to be mentally at their best. So, from a student’s perspective, VIIT is the best as books can’t do wonders in M.Tech; it’s the mental framework that gets one going. Mental assassination too has happened because the college is strict and they have their ways of doing things. So, those who don’t follow or obey the commands had to face assassination more brutal than Lincoln or John F Kennedy.

Studies start with basics as the first semester was the revision of all that we learned in B.Tech. So, the students who failed to gather something there had the best chance to learn the same things over and again. The management or the faculties didn’t rush as there were few students who hardly knew anything because they graduated from some lesser-known college where they were hardly taught anything. Those students were made to work hard and were called during the extra sessions that happened. I don’t know if there’s any college that does that but VIIT definitely does that to its students who were poor with their erstwhile academics.

If one is not Ph.D., they were not considered qualified to teach M.Tech students. So, what the college has done is they have brought around 15-20 qualified Ph.D. professors to teach us. When you see such a star-studded personality in front of you, you do get intimidated. Well even I got intimidated but once we opened up, we realized that once they were done with PhDs, they have left their seriousness behind them. Their teaching methods were a little subjective but from making students score 5 out of 100 during prelims to score at least 50 out of 100 in finals, it was all their magic that worked. They worked on every individual and lesser M.Tech strength allowed them to do so. Faculties' teaching overshadowed their degrees because I was more a fan of their teaching than their degrees.

All the IT companies that operate in Pune have come to VIIT campus for placements. From Persistent Systems to Imaginational Technologies, everyone was there. Needless to mention Mindtree, TCS, or Infosys as they didn’t just hire the students for their Indian branches but for their UK, Europe, and US subsidiaries too. So, at least 20 or more students were sent abroad and that too with packages worth 16 to 18 lakhs. The figures may look lesser in terms of dollar and Euro prices but getting a move on at TCS, London firm is itself an achievement.

VIIT hostel was outside the campus but because the college was on the outskirts, moving more inside the city would have meant a hell lot of travel. Hence, I stayed at the Gadia hostel which is the boys’ hostel of the college. The hostel was good and rooms were spacious and were cleaned daily. The sweeper timings were such that they always came after college hours. Every floor of the hostel had a fridge and a RO water purifier. There’s always banter going on at hostels, as it was a rule that nobody will question anyone if they lose their bottles from the fridge. The only hostel that I stayed in was VIIT’s hostel and from my perspective, it was good as I may not have led the best hostel days but they weren’t bad either.

There are 4 buildings of four departments on the campus. Each department had its auxiliary library and the main library was at the admin block. This made things weird as many times, it happened that I walked to the library and was caught by faculties and they ate away a lot of time. The college has a huge canteen and doesn’t forget three small cafés including a tuck shop. The infrastructure was good but definitely much lesser than DAIICT.

The life at VIIT was definitely up to the mark as I came here with some huge expectations. The fees were quite reasonable and then if one looks at the facilities provided to students, it was worth it. The campus of VIIT has B.Tech students who ruled the college events but M.Tech students were given a chance to lead at the annual fest Melange.
