Sinhgad College of Engineering M.Tech Review By Harender Singh

Well SCE gives admission just on graduation and therefore those who haven’t done GATE can also apply for ME here. Well, that wasn’t the sole reason for me choosing this college. It’s a great college as Pune anyways do have a lot of engineering colleges to boast from but Sinhgad College of Engineering Pune comes right up there. M. E. doesn’t have mechanical branch here but they do have Mechatronics and Automotive Engineering specialization. Automotive enticed me rather more as Pune has all big names like Tata Motors, Mahindra, and Bajaj Auto there so I knew it will be a great deal of learning. For a mechanical student who just did few workshops on automobile industry to crack such a tough nut but I am glad to go through as it was tough but mechanical engineering teaches one to be tough. With all due respect to CS students but our studies require not just mental toughness but physical toughness too. Their internship is wagging tail types while ours was real laborious work because I did my interns at Bajaj Auto and trust me it was the toughest phase that I went through during my academic career.

M. E. I feel is 360 degrees of engineering and therefore I reckon M. E. should be pursued only by the ones who have mental toughness. Even though the strength was less but still many students dropped out in between because Automotive Engineering was one of the toughest ones will find. One needs to be adept in Physics and many other subjects because an automobile engineer career is short-lived if he/she can’t cope with the pressure. So, what SCE has done well is that they have done their best so that people don’t succumb to the added pressure that academics had.

Even though the college is a private college but University of Pune is the ones who keep a check on the faculty. No faculties are allowed to teach M. E. students unless they are PhD. So, we learned from the experts because what else they could have studied post that. Their studies and researches were still on as things become outdated too fast in the world of automobiles. So, faculties themselves kept updated and also thereby made us updated. So, how to keep a check on the latest happening and that learning should never stop in engineering life was the biggest takeaway that we took from them.

Our sector was defined as auto and auto ancillary’s companies were the ones that offered jobs to us. Look in M. E. one doesn’t have to wait long for placements because if you have sweat hard at the internships then you will not have to bleed at all at the placement’s session. Many students including me were pre-hired and those who weren’t were hired through the mass placements that took place. However, one thing that shouldn’t have happened was that some students were not placed in core sectors because after giving all blood and sweat in learning automobiles how can one work in an IT company.

Sinhgad College of Engineering hostels are inside the campus and there’s no guarantee that you will have your buddies or engineering student as your roommates. All the 10 boy’s hostels had the same scene and also, they were allotted on a pro-rata basis so one has no control in which hostel they want to go to. The only thing which was in the student’s hand was that he could decide in which kind of room, he/she wants to stay. From single to four-seater rooms, all kinds of rooms were available. The hostels were not that expensive and even the mess charges were reasonable. Also, the mess was not compulsory as there were many canteens inside the campus and we could have our food from anywhere.

Sinhgad College of Engineering campus is huge and great. It’s in the outer of the city and we had no business in dwelling to Pune city because it was too far. Some students had their vehicles and unfortunately, I didn’t befriend many, so the only option that I had was the transportation facilities of the college. The library was huge and over a thousand students can sit and study in the library at any point in time. The central library remained all day and night as we could access it whenever we want. There are bank ATMs, shopping complexes, medical stores, and almost all the facilities that a locality can have.

The campus life here was quite new for me because I thought my previous college was the best but then I came to know that it was nothing when compared to Pune colleges. For participation, we went to MIT, SIT, and many other colleges in Pune, and mind you they were just too good. Our college was equally good too as SCE also invited students from other colleges during the annual fest Rupantaran. So, the campus life was good but I never got over with my studies to enjoy the campus life to the fullest.
