DY Patil Institute of Master of Computer Applications and Management Akurdi MCA Review By Himanshu Yadav

MCA became inevitable and therefore I started looking for options. There were many like VIT Pune, PCCOE, and Bharti Vidyapeeth but DYPIMCA is without any question marks the best. The studies became harder and harder with each passing day as there were too many variations included in the course. Getting through the course that had nearly 30 subjects including practicals in effectively 20 months was a tough ask but I chose it for myself and hence there was no looking back. The college deserves a huge amount of credit for the beautiful campus that they have built at Akurdi. There are 12 colleges of the university inside the campus and each department had their own buildings and facilities. Most facilities at the campus were common yet students can never raise question on the quality that the university has maintained. After joining the college, the first thing that went across my mind was will I get distracted but when I saw that MBA building was next to ours and MBA may be even tougher than our course so watching their seriousness, my colours changed too.

Getting through here is not an option as I have already seen the challenges that jobs have these days, so I decided to get the best version of myself here. Luckily, the college allows that because one can ask as many questions, go to the faculties at will and yet if they have doubted a lot of journals and online teaching material was available in library. So, if one asks question on whether or not the education needs some changes, I would say none. So, one piece of advice if I could give in my feedback to the college would be that they should continue on this pathway as academics has what made DR DY Patil a world-famous name today.

The difference between a master’s teacher and PhD teacher was known only after I joined this college. My erstwhile college had teachers with master’s degree and here only the PhD holders. They haven’t just kept their knowledge intact but even though most of them were in 40s, they have kept building on it. The same energy and willingness to learn was transpired to students as well and that is why the results of MCA college was the best among all the other colleges of the university. Well, so for this I guess only faculty could be credited because they were the ones who made it possible.

Firstly, a myth that only IT companies are the ones who are in demand for computer students. Well, a technical help or technical persons are required by any small or large company and therefore to my surprise it were the names like Amul India, Aditya Birla Group, and others who took maximum students. The IT companies were also there because M. Tech students charge too high or rather overpricing themselves with the M. Tech degree were ignored and MCA students were hired instead. The average placements were around 6-7 lakhs. Initially it looked less but who knew that growth is exponential in corporate world, so to all who thinks initial payment matters, I would say that initial organization matters so always choose quality of job over quantum of job.

Some hostels are inside the campus while some just outside the campus. There were 5 to 6 blocks of boys’ hostels and PG students were kept with PG students mostly. However, it was not defined as it depended on the availability. The hostels looked good because some of them have been built 5-7 years back and therefore facilities wise, they are adept to make sure that students never miss their home with regards to rooms and food that they provided.

Well, Akurdi campus looks like Walt Disney Theatre as a lot of showpieces are there at the campus. The campus is huge with loads and loads of facilities. Among all the facilities one that stood out was certainly the cricket ground of the college. DY Patil already has their international stadium in Navi Mumbai and trust me, if the stands were built around the ground at Akurdi campus, even it would have got the international stadium status. For food, there are ample canteens and food trucks are there inside the campus to drool your tongue with all the variety of food that you crave for. Seminar halls, auditoriums, and library too were world class.

Lifestyle of the students of DY Patil can’t be seen elsewhere. Students from well to do families are the ones that comes here. The sports day or rather sports week is given more importance at the university than the cultural fests. Every college used to have their own cultural fest and in that the engineering college fest Fahrenheit has to be the best event of the college. So, life here was simple as you have to study and make a career as campus provides you everything that can be easily rated above par.
