With a score of 85 percentile in CAT, the options of getting into a top B-School became slim but luckily got admission at Welingkar Institute Management as I was kept waiting for a while before I got the call to come and enroll. I would like to thank the one who cancelled his/her admissions because for me many career opening started happening as soon as I passed out from here. Well, the university was ranked around 100 say 10 years back and when I joined it was ranked 24th. So, one can check the progress that the college has made. WeSchool literally spoilt me for choices as Finance and Marketing seats were full but the management people and the counselor were so helpful that they introduced me to the importance of new age specializations that the college started a couple of years back when I joined. PGDM in rural and retail management, media & entertainment, business analytics, and others. Well media and entertainment were the one that I chose as I wanted to study that I enjoy the most.

I chose the specialization alright but the first year is common. All three trimester of the first year were common. I was like when will I study about the roles or the subjects that we will be doing. Well, come the second year and tables turned upside down. The first trimester of the second year was crazy because we were sent to the field and CNBC which is one of our partner media houses. Apart from that too many entertainment houses too were partners of the college under whom we worked and learned through that. So, working along with studies was the way of learning here. I never imagined such things but well then, it’s WeSchool and Mumbai to add that too, one can be ready for surprises.

More than permanent faculties it were the guest faculties that helped us understand what our course was all about. Guest lectures almost every other day in the final year and people like Sonia Shenoy, Rajat Bose, and others were the ones with whom we had one on one interaction during those guests’ lectures. Not just media but from entertainment business too many stalwarts joined the race in getting us ready as India’s entertainment industry is peaking and a lot of workforces is required. So, faculties with a lot of experience and knowledge of the sector were the ones who used to teach us and make us ready to give our all while studying.

Most of the media houses that operates in India are funded from abroad like the Bloomberg, CNBC, and Viacom 18 among others. So, some of the students were placed abroad from our courses and because maybe I wasn’t that skilled I was happy getting placed in India. A media use that business people in India watch every day is where I work today and I am thankful to WeSchool for getting me here because there’s no other college where this media house go for recruitment. Well, this is because WeSchool prepare us in a manner that they don’t have to look beyond us. I know many are envied because of this but if you are then don’t check the rankings just enroll here and let your work do the talking.

Well, the hostels were close to the college as they were at a walking distance from both Dadar and King’s Circle local stations. The hostel was the cheapest and the best options because I was surprised to know the rates of the rented apartment in Mumbai. If I stay for 3-4 years on rent in Mumbai, I can indeed a buy home for myself in Indore with that money. The hostels overall were average and the food was somehow manageable but at the cost that I was paying in Mumbai, I won’t complain.

WeSchool building is the highlight of the college. The main building looks so sobre in front of that as the building can be spotted from a distance. Mumbai weather is humid for 10 months a year and therefore ACs are must and college has therefore installed ACs not just in the classrooms but even in the lobbies. We had to carry our laptops to the classes and there were over 50 charging points in the classrooms. The labs were super amazing and the board room designed there would give a complete corporate feel. Area must be a building and that’s all but one has to look at the superlatives that were attached with that building.

PGDM course will make you highly active as you will realize the importance of sleep and how waking early can make your day. So, I learned all this at WeSchool. I have maintained the similar lifestyle even today. Events of colleges in Mumbai were something else but being students of entertainment program, we got the opportunity to attend some of the Page3 parties too.
