Affordable Fee Structure for Masters at BHU Varanasi

BHU Varanasi is ranked 6th among all the universities in India by NIRF in 2024. This is why I chose this university to do my Master’s. The campus is very beautiful to hangout. The greenery is everywhere and there is Vishwanath temple in its premises, which increases the beauty of BHU. Its central library is ‘Asia's Biggest Library’ where more than 1000 students can read at once. There is cyber library with more than 800 computers. Each department has its own library and computer lab with enough computers and books. The seniors are very helpful. Anti-ragging cell is there and no ragging is allowed. The sports facilities are very good. Every year, sports program are held for all games. Some festivals are also celebrated.

I completed M.Sc with Mathematics in 2024. My motive was pursuing PhD and this course has very good value in research and teaching. It gives you knowledge of that level also. To take admission in my course, you have to give CUET PG exam of specified category. The cut off for unreserved is 165, for OBC 130, for SC 70, for ST 60 and for PwD is low to 20. The course duration is of 2 years and semester wise exams are held. It takes mid-sem exams of 20 marks between the semesters, 10 marks are for maintaining attendance & class performance, and end semester exam are of 70 marks. Academics mostly prepare for research and teaching. As mentioned, the curriculum is perfect for the fields like research and teaching, some improvements can be made to aid students who want pursue their career in industries and companies. There are more than 60 departments. there are swimming and yoga courses also.

The first semester fee is Rs. 2,800, for second semester it is Rs. 325, for third semester it is Rs. 2,200 and for fourth it is Rs. 825. Hence, total tuition fee is around Rs. 7,000. No extra exam fee is taken. there is now extra discount for category students but fee is affordable for everyone. It does not provide general scholarships but it provide for very poor students. for that, you have to visit controller’s office. you can also apply national or your state scholarship and get full refund of money. I got Rs. 20,000 in M.Sc from UP government that covered both hostel and tuition fee.

The faculties in each department are well qualified and very helpful. Some faculties come from top institutes like IISc, IITs, and some who has their education from foreign university. Leaving a little number of faculties, most of them have excellent teaching methods. some of them may see strict also. They are easily approachable for students. Problem solving skills are very high. I knew Ashish Kumar Upadhyay Sir who has done his PhD from IISC Bangalore and was also Head of Department in IIT Patna. He was very helpful to everyone. I also knew Krishnendu Bhattacharya who helped us in games during Annual Sports Program. he has very nice nature. Mostly, all of them are lovable.

There is a placement cell in university now, which helps students to be placed in companies. in Geophysics department, highest package was 25 Lakh Per Annum. During my time, placement cell helped students to get jobs in Edtech companies with a package of 6 to 9 Lakh Per Annum from M.Sc Mathematics department. From my batch, 4 were placed with a package of 6 Lakh Per Annum. Companies like PW (Physics Wallah), Unacademy, and other Edtech companies were recruiters.

There is separate hostel for both boys and girls, where more than 50% students of course stay. To get hostel, you have to get good marks in CUET PG exam. In one room, two students can stay. Hostel rooms are not too big but have enough space to stay. the hostels are cleaned on the daily basis. There are 2 to 3 messes and one canteen in each hostel. A hostel fee is semester wise, which is Rs. 2,875. First you have to deposit Rs. 2,000 as security money, which is refunded at end. Hostel timings are flexible for boys that are open at all times I can say. But for girls, hostels are closed by 11 PM and open at 5 AM. without prior permission, you cannot go outside of girl’s hostels at night. I was in hostel and I can say this is heaven. You must stay in hostels if you have chance. You will meet different types of people from all over country. Mess food is mostly good.

Banaras Hindu University is Asia's second largest university where greenery is everywhere. The libraries have all books you need. The classrooms are highly rated. The buildings are beautiful. The departments are well designed for research and teaching. Many good hangout places like madhuban park, Vishwanath temple and more are available. there is IIT BHU in the premises where you can hangout without any prior permission. The roads are well developed which connects each department and faculty. The grounds are well developed and now have lighting facilities in night. There is university sports board also. Each department has its own 2 to 3 classrooms. There is big GYM that can be used by more than 100 people at once and 3 to 4 open GYMs are there. Tea stalls are placed everywhere where you can enjoy tea, and some Indian snacks.

The campus life is excellent. The crowd is also too much but it is manageable. The fests like ‘Aakansha’ are also held where you can participate in dancing, singing, essay writing, quizzes, and many more activities. Annual sports program is held in all the games. You can learn singing, dancing, art, and many more here as it has Department in Art Faculty. You can learn any sports also it have coaches. Hostel life is beautiful. Mess is good. Campus is beautiful to see. Overall campus life is 5 out of 5.
