BHU Varanasi Central Library is Called 'Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library'

I am from Banaras, so choosing Banaras Hindu University Varanasi came out as a great option for me. All the things here fascinate me like the green and the peaceful environment. Moreover, the central library here is 24/7 open and has numbers of books. Students come here from all over India and some from even different countries like Nepal and Bangladesh. The crowd here is great and well educated. One can achieve great success if they utilise the available resources to its fullest.

I am pursuing B.Com (Hons.) in Financial Market Management. It is a specialised course and the reason I chose this course is the placement opportunities it offers. To become eligible for admission here, students need to complete their higher secondary education and appear for CUET exam. The admission process is quite easy here and available online which further makes it easier for students to apply. Students have to come to the University only for physical verification of their documents whose dates are generally held a week of the admissions. End semester exams are held twice a year (each semester), but in between many class tests and a mid semester examination is also conduct by University. The curriculum at this University is up to date and prepares students for their respective industry challenges.

My course fee is approx. Rs. 32,000/- annually since it is a specialised course. This fee is only inclusive of the course fee. The hostel fee, mess fee and any other tuition fee is your own liability. Scholarships are given by UP Government to students which are generally beneficial to students.

In my course, there are some assistant professors assigned to teach us but some of them send their scholars to teach us. Since, the scholars are approximately of our age, studying becomes fun and we enjoy the lectures a lot. The faculty members are well educated and come from a great academic background. Their behavior towards students shows their remarkable skills. Mostly they teach using blackboard but at time PPTs are also used for better understanding. Moreover, we have group discussions very often. There is no rigid way of teaching. The faculty members teach as per the need of the concept to make it understandable for us. If the students face any problem, they can feel free to discuss it with the faculty of the University. Sometimes online classes are also conducted by professors. The teacher student ratio is well-maintained. Personally, I have a very good bonding with each of my professor and their scholars who come to teach us at times. They are great and I feel free to discuss academic and non-academic issues with them to seek their guidance.

AS per my knowledge there is no active placement cell in my University, but there are ample placement opportunities that students can utilise. Students generally find placement in the final year of their graduation. Also big 4 companies come for placement at the University. The students at this University have higher chances to get placements since because of the reputation of the University.

Yes, there are hostel facilities. Each hostel is divided on the basis of department of students. The ‘Birla Hostel’ is for boys of arts department whereas ‘Triveni Complex’ is for girls studying at the University. Some hostels are big and some are of medium sizes. The hostel room capacity varies from 70 to 300 rooms. Each room generally has a seating capacity of two students. Each hostel has a mess of their own and quality food is served to the students. We are provided meals 3 times a day, i.e., Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The fee of the hostel accommodation of the University is generally low in comparison with the other private hostels. Our hostel fee is around Rs. 12,000/- annually. The hostels don't have rigid rules of maintaining the register for every action, but there is an attendance register that we need to sign everyday to mark our attendance at the hostel. While going for any holiday, it is compulsory to get the leave approved by the warden (with parents’ permission). They generally ask for an application for the same and confirm the leave from the parents before granting any such permission. Hostel gates get closed at 10 PM, so after that no student can go outside the hostel. But if someone comes inside after that, they must mention the time and reason for being late in the register being maintained at the University. If a student is late more than three times, then the respective authority informs the parents about the same. And the gate reopens at 5 AM. I live in hostel and I am very satisfied with my experience here so far since the hygiene of the hostel is properly maintained. The environment is also peaceful and study friendly.

The campus has many buildings. There are buildings for each department with numerous classes. Classrooms are huge and have a seating capacity of around 150 students at a time. Moreover, each building has their common rooms, library, seminar hall, auditorium, and conference hall. Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library also has many books and there is a central library for all the BHU Varanasi students which are considered to be as one of the largest libraries of the town. Facilities of sports like football and volleyball are also here. There are also a number of canteens at the University. There is also a health center for students and free transportation facilities are also available for the students.

This University is generally famous for its campus life and its aesthetics. The green environment here is heartfelt itself. Sports also have its own importance here and many teams and members are part of state teams now. There are many societies and clubs which are formed for the students and some professors also are part of it. I currently am in a Literature Club called ‘AKSHAR’ since I am a bit of a bookworm. There are many extracurricular activities like sports, cultural activities and fests out of which some are organised by the faculty and some by the students themselves like Holi parties, Diwali parties, Foundation Day, etc. I personally like this University because of the exposure it provides and also I have some good friends here.
