Kashiyatra is an Annual Socio-Cultural Fest of BHU Varanasi

One of the factors that made me choose BHU Varanasi is its well-known central library, which provides lots of books as well as high seating capacity for the students to study. Another factor is its affordability and the reputation it holds. The fee is nominal and it also has reserved seats for other categories which definitely adds to the social inclusion and provides fair opportunity to all.

I have chosen B.Com (Hons.) as I want to become CA and the syllabus of both the courses is same, & therefore I chose this stream. The University accepts scores of CUET. All those who have passed 12th exams are eligible and the age limit is 21 years. It considers marks of 3 subjects that are Accountancy, Business Studies, and General Aptitude Test. The admission process is carried forward by counseling in 2 to 3 rounds and it is followed by online document verification and then physical verification. In my course in a semester, there is a mid-term exam in form of class test and assignments & an end semester exam testing overall learning. The curriculum is more theoretical based. But there is a special course called Financial Markets Management which is specialised and provides a better picture of real-life scenarios.

The fee of the course is very nominal which is about Rs. 2,300/- per year. Registration fees of Rs. 600/- was charged at the time of applying for the University and after that direct first semester fees of Rs. 1,150/- was charged after admission was confirmed. There are scholarships provided for the students from Uttar Pradesh.

The faculty members are friendly in nature and they are very open, approachable and receptive towards questions and doubts. Faculties are readily available and they are also good at teaching their particular subjects. Almost all of them hold Ph.D and are experts in their fields. They also provide opportunity to their scholars to teach in the class. Some teachers are better in using blackboard while others are very comfortable with using PPTs and group discussion for teaching. All of them try to keep their sessions interactive and give their best to make every concept clear. There is a particular chamber set up by the Students Wellbeing Services Cell in which a counselor listens to any problem that you face and provides very practical solutions. Also, the teacher to student ratio is impressive. Apart from that the scholars also play a major role in management.

Basically, the placements in my department need to be improved but as far as internships are concerned, they are sufficiently provided by various companies which hire interns and welcome fresh knowledge. There is a placement cell for the students of MBA and various companies such a Fintech, Wipro, Axis Bank, etc. come to recruit students. IIT BHU serves spectacular placement opportunities for the students so I would definitely recommend the University for pursuing a degree in Science, Arts or Social Science streams.

Yes, residential facility is provided by BHU Varanasi and it is one of the largest residential University of Asia. International students have separate hostels. There are hostels for the girl students in the Triveni Complex and this complex consists of more than 5 hostels, among them one hostel is named Kaveri. In total there are about 75 number of rooms in Kaveri girls’ hostel and the number of the students is around 120 to 130. Loads of recreational activities are conducted by the warden for the students such as rangoli, room decoration, and dance competitions, garba nights, etc. There are separate boys’ hostel but it is currently under renovation. This year boys were not allotted hostel but the girls’ hostel is spectacular in its beauty and cleanliness. The food quality is also excellent. The students from hostel are appointed to look after the preparation of food from time to time and perform quality checks. There are three meals in a day and in evening, tea is provided. There is a canteen in the Triveni Complex, and three shops for stationery & grocery. The rules of hostel are very lenient. The time of closing the hostel gate is 10 PM at and we are allowed maximum 3 late night outings. The hostel fee for each year is Rs. 3,000/- and apart from that Rs 3,200/- per month is charged for mess. I am staying in the hostel and my personal experience is very good and I would surely recommend to live in the hostel.

The campus of the University has 6 gates for entrance & exit and a network of semicircular roads. The size of the campus is also mesmerizing. The classrooms have good sitting capacity. Every class has a white board and smartboard. Each department has its own library, labs, seminar halls, auditorium, and conference halls. There are free buses in the campus, one for females only and the other two for both male and female students. These buses run in every 30 minutes. The University’s sports board provides yoga & swimming training and huge grounds for practicing sports. Free medical and healthcare facilities are available for the students. My favourite thing in the University is the small open area at the entrance. The infrastructure of Arts and Science stream is worth seeing.

I would recommend you to experience the evening walk in BHU Varanasi campus which provides you peace and also reduces your stress if you have any after the classes. The crowd at the University is large and students across the Asia take admission in the University. There are many clubs formed by the students of Arts and Social Science department. Apart from that, Commerce department also has clubs like Samvad society and debate clubs. The University also conducts Kashiyatra which is the fest of IIT BHU, but all the students of the University are invited to join the fest. There is also a cultural program named Spandan. Also, there are dance and singing clubs. Apart from this, the University has provided me with enough of opportunities to pursue my dreams further.
