IIT Kanpur: Beyond My Expectations

Overall Rating
Actually, I didn't have many expectations from IIT Kanpur but when I came here, it totally proved me wrong. My home is too far from here but still I chose this institute. This institute gives us freedom more than we expect. Here, we can have nice interaction with seniors as they are so friendly. They always feel friendly. We feel lucky that we got into this institute.
 

Academics Rating
As we know, the admissions in IITs happen through JoSAA counseling and the process is simple. I got CSE branch and now I'm so happy that I got into this branch, which I wanted to study. The academic load is not much for 1st year students. We can easily manage all the subjects allotted to us. The exams are little bit tough but even more than that, the grading system at IIT Kanpur is so hard that we have to give extra efforts for better grades and GPA. Actually, some subjects are like we may think where we are going to use them in real life but we just have to study them.
Hostel charges including mess is around Rs. 33,000 per year along with that registration fee of Rs. 35,000. Tuition fee is 1 Lakh per semester (for general category students). However, we do have a lot of different scholarships for students, so most of the students get reimbursement. Reserved category students don't have to pay tuition fee because they get scholarship from institute at the time of admission.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty here is so good and everyone is very good in their area of expertise. Students don't feel hesitated in contacting them. They are so kind and friendly with you. The classrooms are air-conditioned and well maintained. many of the professors use smart boards and teach using PPTs. some professors use blackboards but it doesn't matter because every professor give their best to make students understand the topic.
 

Placement Rating
Yes, we do have placement cell in our campus, which is maintained by staff and students. These
cells will make sure that the process of placement in institute is done in a smooth way. They get multinational companies for institute’s placement drive. The highest package is around 4 CPA and average is around 25-30 LPA. Yes, I am still in my first year. I don't know much about the cell but I have seen how placements are done in our campus. So with that experience I can say, most of the students get placed in a very good position. They feel satisfied with what they got from the institute.
 

Hostel Rating
The entire first year students will reside in single hostel. The hostel is so well maintained. We have 14 hostels in our campus. We don't have any common hostel for both girls and boys. The mess of the first year students is actually not so bad. The food is good most of the times but sometimes the food is not liked by some because of their personal preference. The mess timings are so flexible there they open mess for 2 hours during breakfast, lunch, and dinner times. I like staying in hostel because previously, I used to be in hostel and compared to the previous ones, this hostel is so better.
 

Infrastructure Rating
IIT Kanpur has beautiful infrastructure and it is so better than many top institutes in India. It has a very green campus and is pollution free because it has only electronic vehicles inside the campus. The campus also has beautiful viewpoints. Especially in winters, the campus looks so beautiful. If you want to explore the institute, prefer nighttime. It is so peaceful at that time to get the best experience of the time you invested.
 

Campus Rating
