My Opinion on IIT Kanpur: Best Infrastructure & Education

Overall Rating
IIT Kanpur is one of the premium Institutes Of Technology in India with NIRF ranking 4. The quality of life is really good and you enjoy being here. The academics are somewhat hectic, but you can manage it by having daily reading habits. There is lot of flexibility here, like you have options for double majors, branch change, minors, etc. It is good.
 

Academics Rating
Although my course was one of the only options available to me at that time but I do not regret on my decision. You have to appear for JEE main and thereafter based on your ranks; you will be offered admission to Undergraduate Courses. For Postgraduate, there are many channels like GATE, CAT, etc. There is a semester wise system (2 regular semesters each year). Each semester lasts around 4- 5 months, in which there is a mid sem exam and an end sem exam. Also, at least two quizzes are conducted in most of the courses.
Per sem Tuition fee is Rs. 1,00,000, other fee (including hostel and mess expenses) is Rs. 30,000- Rs. 35,000. However, if your family income is less than 1 Lakh (or SC/ST category) the tuition fee is waivered. If income is between 1 to 4.5 Lakh (Gen, Gen-EWS, OBC category) the tuition fee is Rs. 33,000.
 

Faculty Rating
Faculties here are great and some of them are very much professionally advanced. Here you can easily find a Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award winner roaming here and there. Most of them motivate you to study hard. After every class, your zeal to learn more is ignited. However, I am not a PhD student but I have heard that some professors need to improve their supervision.
 

Placement Rating
There is a student placement office mostly run by students under guidance of professors. It facilitates internship and placements to students. Almost all renowned companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Intel, IBM, JP Morgan, etc come to college. Average package offered to class of 2024 was 23 LPA with highest package ranging to 4.3 Cr.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Academic block contains 20-lecture halls, a tutorial block and numerous labs. It also houses offices of deans, professors and registrars. It spans to area of 1054 acre, full of greenery and located in the suburbs of Kanpur i.e. Kalyanpur. It is connected to main city via road, rail, and metro. Classrooms are fully equipped with modern infrastructure and have ramps for specially abled students. Library contains about 2.5 Lakh volumes. The institute has 2 auditoriums. There is canteen in each hostel and canteens in academic blocks, which runs 24/7.
 

Campus Rating
Overall campus life is great. The campus community leads a disciplined life, at least in public sphere. There are varieties of clubs catering the needs of students. I am part of 2 clubs, namely Astronomy Club and Hindi Sahitya Sabha. There are various fests organized by students itself. Three main of them are ‘Antaragini’, ‘Udghosh’ and ‘Techkriti’. Antaragini is a Cultural Fest, which attracts participants from all over the India. Udghosh is the Sports Fest and Techkriti is a Tech Fest.

    Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur is one of the prestigious engineering institutes in India known for its academic excellence, innovative research and good industry connections. IIT Kanpur was established by the Government of India in 1959 and was the fourth IIT to be set up by GOI after IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras.
