GCC Guwahati: Affordable Fees and Quality Commerce Education

In Guwahati, GCC is the best College for Commerce stream. It's located Near Chandmari and can be reached directly via bus. Best facilities are available for commerce background students. For B.Com course, there are 6 semesters generally but recently due to the introduction of New Education Policy (NEP), there will be 8 semesters. There is a beautiful garden which is well maintained in the campus. Several festivals and events are held throughout the year including different competitions and functions like quiz, sports, dance, independence day, saraswati puja and many more. The Fees charged by the College for each course is also pretty affordable. My overall experience in the college is good except for the fact that there is no or minimum placement opportunities.

Here the course I chose was B.Com , i.e., Bachelors in Commerce. I aimed to develop a strong base in commerce background. Admission in this college is strictly based on merit. Reservations for several castes such SC, ST, OBC and others are also provided. Admission process is very simple and the relevant authorities provide full support in that regards. Two exams are conducted in each semester namely - Midterms and End Semester exams.

The fees charged is around Rs.10,000/- per year. There is exemption for EWS student. EWS students are privileged and do not have to pay any minimum fees for admission in each semester. Registration fees are to be paid before each End-Semester exams which are compulsory for all students including EWS students. There are also various scholarships provided for outstanding students.

Qualified and efficient faculty members are appointed to each department. Every teacher or professor has a decent background and are highly qualified. Online class is not taken, all classes are held offline. More than 1 teacher is allotted to each subject for better understanding of the subject. I personally had a good experience with the faculty members who helped me successfully whenever I needed it. Although sometimes some of the teachers may be rude. Most of the times they are very friendly and supportive.

Placement in GCC is very poor. Placement opportunities are few and not enough. Internship opportunities are not provided by the College. You have to search and seek for internships on your own.

The College offers hostel facilities for boys and the fee structure is pretty affordable. Hostel accommodation for the girls are not available. The food is pretty average and good hygiene is maintained. I personally don't have much idea about the hostel timings.

The campus is pretty nice and it has a beautiful garden which is well maintained. Each classroom is big enough to fit around 80 students. The College has a gym, library, cafeteria and medical room for students well being. It also has a big enough auditorium where different events are held for students welfare. It has a ground for students to play cricket, football, etc., and a parking lot for them to park their personal vehicles.

There are various clubs including Literary clubs, magazine club, NSS, NCC and more which students are free to join if they want. Several events and festivals are also held like competitions such as quiz, debate, singing, dance etc. Festivals and important days such as independence day, saraswati puja, etc. Apart from these, freshers day, farewell day, college week are also held to promote student welfare and development.
