VJTI Mumbai Hostel Facilities: Fees, Conditions, and More

I’m in currently First Year B.Tech at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute. My branch is Electronics and Telecommunication. I had just completed my first semester but if I have to give an overview then I must say the institute is really better in terms of academics and placements seeing recent year placement reports. So I would recommend future students that if they are getting admission in this institute apart from IIT and top NIT then you should really grab this opportunity.

I have chosen B.Tech in Electronics and Telecommunication. You have to give MHT-CET Exam to get into this institute. After results of MHT-CET exam you have to follow the guidelines given by CET cell to stay connected to latest updates and dates. In my Course there are total 8 semesters. In each semester there is MST (Mid Sem Test) and ESE (End Sem Test). You need to clear these exams to reach next semester. Academics prepare for real life challenges as they give us time pressure within which we have to complete a given task, due to which we understand the importance to time. It also increases our problem solving approach. We have Co-curricular subjects in our syllabus in which we are given many options like Canva, Basketball, Football, NCC, Social Work, etc. out of which we have to choose one as a subject.

At Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, the fee for B.Tech is around Rs. 85,000 per year (for open category also not including hostel). If you have category then fee is reduced, but fee need to reimburse from MahaDBT. So, overall expenditure for 4 years on institute fee for open category student will be around Rs. 3, 50,000. Tuition fee is less around Rs. 15,000 for open category student and the development fee I think is about Rs. 40,000. For students enrolled in EWS, TFWS category gets Tuition fee waiver of 50% and 100% respectively. All the girls’ students have 100% tuition fee waiver.

There are professors who have completed their Ph.D and have experience. So, well experienced faculties are available, and have deeper knowledge about the subject. Also teachers solve my doubts regarding GATE exam questions. Faculties are strict and you need to be regular to class, for theory classes more than 80% of attendance is required and for lab 100% attendance is required. If there is genuine reason then only faculty will understand, also if your attendance is low then you would be not allowed to sit for ESE, unless you have a valid reason. The teacher to student ratio is not that much nice for our branch which consists of 80 students. We only have one classroom and one teacher teaches to all 80 students. For labs we are divided into groups and perform respective experiments.

Placements in this institute are better than Tier 2 NITs and lower IITs. The placement of different departments is as follows: CS- 93% placed, average package (avg.) 19.71 LPA; IT- 95% placed, avg 17.38 LPA; EXTC - 82% placed, avg 11.13 LPA; Tronics- 84% placed, avg 11.17 LPA; Civil-92% placed, avg 6.87 LPA; Mechanical - 97% placed, avg 9.00 LPA; and Textile- 72% placed, avg 8.28 LPA. So, Placements are great here. The top recruiters are - Google, Microsoft, Amazon, NPCL, Oracle, VISA, etc. Overall highest CTC is 62 LPA (IT). TPO which stands for Training and Placement Cell is present in the institute which assists students during the placements. The students need to compulsorily complete an internship in their 7th sem after which they will be awarded internship certificate. TPO helps in providing internships So, students can experience on what field they are going to work. Some companies also offer Pre-placement Offers to Students who have done internships in their companies.

Hostel facility is available at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute but only for limited students who are staying more than 50 km away from the institute. Girls and Boys hostels are separate. Hostel is getting renovated recently. So, they are becoming good. Hostel is not very fancy but I can say it is average. But I would appreciate the hostel as cost of living in Mumbai is too high. Institute fee for boys is Rs. 22,000 per year and Rs. 44,000 per year for mess. If you are allotted PG hostel then hostel fee is Rs. 44,000. There are not such restrictions on going in and out timing for boys hostels but as per my knowledge girls are not allowed to go out of hostel after 10 pm. Hostel area is kept clean regularly. Various scholarships are also available depending on the income and category of the students. Mess Timing for breakfast is 7.30 am to 9.00 am and for lunch is 12.30 am to 2.00pm, and for dinner is 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm. Mess is closed on Sunday Night so you have to go out and eat.

Classrooms are really furnished, some classes have AC facility too, and some classrooms are being renovated now so they will also become good. Campus size is around 16 acres and located in Matunga, Dadar east. Around 100 students can sit in one classroom. Library facility is available from 10am to 5pm sometimes 7pm. Auditorium is available which can accommodate more than 250+ students and fully equipped labs are also available here. Canteen facility is also available, for transport purpose taxis are always available here. Dadar Railway Station is also within 2km range. Gymkhana, Cricket ground, football ground, basketball court, and Volleyball Ground is available in the campus. Gymkhana is one of my favorite places where I often go and play chess. Also various machines are available for research purposes. These are especially for students who are doing M.Tech and Ph.D. Also Computer Labs, Robotics Lab under Society of robotics and automation are present which provide real world exposure.

My overall campus life is going fine and academics are going excellent. Institute crowd is also very energetic and competitive in nature. Institute contains various fests such as Rangawardhan, Enthusia, and Technovanza which gives real world exposure and also provides entertainment and opportunities to learn. Currently Enthusia Sports Fest is going on in Feb. 2025 in which various institutes have participated to compete against each other in various sports. Various Hackathons are also arranged on Behalf of Community of Coders. I’m part of Enthusia sports club and I’m currently Department Coordinator of my branch for chess. Various Events are also organised by students themselves especially our seniors for us like Techno Bot Workshop, Workshops, etc.
