Miranda House College's Campus Life: Clubs, Fests, & Others

This is a place of wonders. The prestigious Miranda House College, New Delhi has been one of the country's most famous and influential colleges. People from all backgrounds, be it Humanities, Commerce or Science can find a place in the college. My personal experience as a first year, second semester student has been insightful and inspirational as of now. One of the main reasons, why I kept this college at the top of my list was because of the comfort, peace and academically well versed crowd it offered. If you're looking for a college where you can enhance your personality, your skills or even just your mindset, trust me this is the place for you.

The course that I am pursuing is Bachelor of Arts with Political Science as a major and History as minor. The main reason for choosing this course is that it diversifies one's academic curriculum. The main criterion for the eligibility at the college is the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). A person who has not given this exam after completing their 12th grade cannot be considered as eligible for admission. The admission process of the college is simple and lucid. Once, you get your CUET results on the website of Delhi University, you will be shown, whether you have secured a seat in the college or not on the basis of your merit. After that, there is a process of online document verification which takes a few days to get completed. Finally, you just have to pay the annual tuition fee of the college and the semester wise admission fee as well. The exams in Miranda House College, New Delhi are held semester wise. There are no mid semester exams of the college as per the guidelines of university. As per my experience, more than the academics, it is the crowd of the college which helps the students to grow for their real-life challenges.

The yearly tuition fee for my course is Rs. 15,400. There are some special scholarships and financial aids available for the students belonging to the EWS category.

The faculty for my course is pretty amiable. Most of the professors are helpful, knowledgeable, and well versed in the subject that they teach. They are more than willing to help out the students in any adversity they face. Personally, I have found a very small number of professors, who do not posses these qualities. The method of teaching includes blackboards, smart boards, online learning, group discussions, and debates in the class, which boost the communication skills and confidence of the students. My personal experience with most of the professors of the college has been positive and inspiring. They are friendly and make every effort to clear doubts of the students.

The best part of this college is that it provides hostel facilities to its students. Though the seats are limited and are acquired only in the merit basis, the people who make it here are really blessed. The hostel accommodation is given to students who belong from the areas other than Delhi NCT, NCR, and some parts of Haryana as well. Total students who are presently in the hostel are around 200. We have all the facilities expect for ACs or coolers. The rooms are quite spacious. The fee for the first semester students is around Rs. 32,190 and for the second semester students, it is around Rs. 26,000. The best part of the hostel is that it has no curfew. This means that the hostellers can leave or enter the hostel at any given point of time. The quality of the mess food is average. Experience of staying in the hostel is full of positive thoughts. We have huge lawns in the hostel in which we can roam around freely. It is definitely a privilege to be a hosteller of this institute.

Miranda House College, New Delhi is known for its aesthetic infrastructure. The walls of British era are very eye catching and every single corner of the college is photogenic. There is a library, which is available to the students until 7 PM in the evening. Then the other major blocks/areas of the college comprises of an advanced library, several digital resource centers (DRCs), Science labs, seminar facilities, cafeteria, a separate Science Block, the hostel, heritage hall, volleyball court, basketball court, lawn tennis court, and so on. My favorite part of the college would definitely be the principal’s lawn which is at the entrance of the college from gate number 2. There are in total 7 gates of the college. In conclusion, the infrastructure of the college keeps everyone in awe throughout all of their years in this college.

The crowd of this college is extremely friendly, supportive, and encouraging. There are numerous clubs and societies that a student can apply to and join. I am a part of the film society of the college called ‘Celluloid’. The main event of the entire college is the fest called ‘Tempest’. Other than that, there are multiple department fests and students can enjoy by just being there. The campus is always imbued with amazing people whom you can approach and talk without hesitation.
