B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing at NIT Kurukshetra

National Institute of Technology is good in my opinion if you are looking for NIT's in the northern India. The Institute is accompanied by beautiful lush green campus although there is a drawback which is that one person has to face some kind of difficulty for coming to this Institute by public transport. The 1st semester of the Institute contains of 4-5 month only and time spends very fast. The class’s timings are generally from 9 AM to 5PM in evening. In between we have lunch break and sometimes a free lecture but it depends on day to day and semester to semester and branch to branch. The first day of the Institute was very interesting for me as I was expecting special classes and interaction with new friends. I was getting other NIT's as well but I chose this one because of its proximity to my hometown and also its reputation is higher as compared to other Institutes.

The course I chose is B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing. It is like a specialization of Computer science and engineering. It has similar syllabus as that of CSE which ultimately offers the same job opportunities and thus we can expect same average package of both the branches. For getting into this Institute one need to score good enough in JEE Main and the cutoff for this branch is 99%ile for general category. Admission process of the Institute was easy. We just need to submit the required documents. Exams are held in three terms, Mid-sem 01, Mid-sem 02 and End-sem 01 which ultimately accumulates total marks as 80 Marks. Academic pressure is not so much.

The fees are paid semester wise at National Institute of Technology. The fee to be paid depends on the income of the student's family. If the student income is more than 5LPA, he/she has to pay the full fee otherwise he is availed fee waiver either 100% or 66%. SC/ST candidates are exempted from paying the full tuition fees.

Faculty members of National Institute of Technology are well qualified even the assistant professors are so highly qualified and teach every concept in a deep knowledge. They generally teach us using the green board but some of the professors prefer to teach via PPT or smart board as well. It depends on professor to professor. The teacher student ration in the Institute is poor and it needs improvement. The vacancy in the Institute is filled by guest teachers. The problem solving ability of the professors is unique and it involves a lot of learning sometimes.

The placement of National Institute of Technology is okay. After the recession it shows a significant change.

Hostel facilities are provided. There are strict rules and particular in time for both girls and boys.

The infrastructure of National Institute of Technology is damn good. It involves good quality roads, no water logging during the rainy season. The benches of the classes need to be improved as they are not comfortable for long sittings. This needs a lot of improvement. Academic facilities like library are good enough and well equipped and air conditioner. Canteen there is no canteen only a non-governmental cafe exists which is not that much good and sports faculty is there which involves a large sports complex. Classrooms are well air conditioned and spacious.

The campus life of National Institute of Technology is bit disorganized, one needs to compromise with that in many aspects like there is no famous eateries or outlets in the campus. There are numerous clubs in the Institute but they are not generally given funds so seniors donate a lot for the welfare of these clubs. The Institute crowd consists of people from every community. Extracurricular actives are organized by the Institute like Techspardha, cities and Institute fest is also there which is ‘Confluence’.
